WOE Fair set to celebrate 86 years of tradition

the three-day event. They need
more vendors, volunteers and
sponsors to ensure the success
of its 86th year.
This year’s highlights are:

Races, the Cottage Grove Bible
Church’s Grand Prix Racing,
the Royal Court Crowning
Ceremony, live performances,
demonstrations, ten categories

had fairs, festivals
and exhibitions since the ear-
ly 1900s. Three of the oldest
annual celebratory traditions
still with us today are the
Western Oregon Exposition
(WEO) Family Fair (1932),
the rodeo (1947) and Bohe-
mia Mining Days (1959).
Today’s fast-paced, tech-
nology-driven lifestyles make
it especially challenging to
maintain the traditions deep-
ly rooted in America’s more
agrarian-oriented

of yesteryear. Yet this chal-
lenge has not deterred the
