It was a one-sided week-
end for North Douglas. After a
52-point margin of victory on
Friday night against Yoncalla,
the Warriors outdid themselves
Saturday as they defeated Pacif-
ic by 67 at home.

we can. I always feel badly, but
you can’t tell your kids not to

coach Jeff Davis.
“I pride myself on having a
little bit of class so it just feels
uncomfortable.”
The Pirates were also uncom-
fortable when, after just a min-
ute and a half of play the team
was down 11-0.

Pacifi c was simply unable to
handle the pressure from North
Douglas. It was not until half-
way through the quarter that the
team was able to get past the
half-court line and get a shot
off.
The Warriors were crisp on
defense throughout the game
and the team ended up with 24
steals, including six from Sofi a
Alcantar, and 49 points off of
turnovers. Alcantar’s speed was
too much for Pacifi c and she
defeated UVC 35-27 on Sat-
urday.

high 16 points.
“Her growth, is incredible.
Sofi a just sees things so well,”
said Davis.
While Alcantar led the team,
there was a great distribution in
stats for the Warriors through-
out the game. All 12 players
scored, including Amy Dooley
who got a layup to go at the end
of the game that got the entire
bench up and cheering.
Natalie Draeger and Hope
Morgan both had 10 points
for the Warriors. Abby Whip-
ple fi lled the box score as she
fi nished with fi ve points, fi ve
assists, six rebounds and six
steals.
“We were anxious to see if we
could put back-to-backs. We’ve
been talking about consistency
and at this time in the season it’s
nice to see, it would be nice for
us to have consistency in our ef-
fort and execution. And I think
we’re getting there, I think
we’ve grown a lot this week,”
said Davis.
In Friday night’s victory over
Yoncalla, Alcantar again led the
team in scoring fi nishing with
13 points to go along with 10
steals and seven assists. Riley

Pacifi c pummels Warriors
By Zach Silva
zsilva@cgsentinel.com
Number one ranked Pacifi c
came to North Douglas on Sat-
urday night and proved to the
Warriors that they are deserv-
ing of their top ranking. The
Warriors entered the game 4-0
in league play but the Pirates
swiftly changed that as they
dominated their way to a 71-42
win.
The Pirates are led by 6-8
captain John Keeler who can
not only post up but has clean
handles, the ability to block
shots and can shoot threes.
“I’d never seen them play ei-
ther. But I’d heart a lot. Obvi-
ously we need to focus on the
big guy, he’s 6’8, and solid.
He’s not 6-8 and doesn’t know
what he’s doing. He ‘s 6-8 and
solid and can shoot,” said North
Douglas’ fi rst year head coach
Tyler Vancil.
With the Warriors’ 6-5 Carson
Burris guarding him all game
and being assisted by help de-
fense, it still was not enough.
On a baseline inbound play in
the fi rst quarter, Keeler showed
off his height as the Pirates
lobbed the ball to him near the
hoop where he jumped and was
unimpeded as he tapped it in for
an easy score. Keeler fi nished
with 13 points and six blocks –
including one that was defl ected
with his elbow.
Up 13-2, Keeler was then
pulled because of foul trou-
ble, but it was no matter as the
Pirates then showed off their
depth. It was Joshua Engdahl
who put his speed on display
as he, play after play, led the
Pirates fast break and got to the
rim for a lay-up. Engdahl fi n-
ished with 13.
Down 35-12 at the half, the
Warriors looked to make adjust-
ments during the break.
“We threw the ball away too
much in the fi rst half. Got a big
defi cit. It seemed like every-
thing they threw up went in,”
said Vancil. “We were down
23 at halftime, which is not in-
surmountable, but in the third
quarter I switched to a zone.
Said they’re killing us inside,
switched to a zone and then I
think they hit fi ve threes.”
In the third quarter it was Ste-
ven White who put on a show
for the Pirates as he started the
quarter four-of-four from down-
town. White added another
three in the fourth quarter and
fi nished the game with a team
high 20 points.
“Everything they’re throwing
up inside is going in, everything
they’re throwing up outside is
going in. They’re a great team,”
said Vancil.
Jake Gerrard led the Warriors
with eight points.
