Christopher
Hahn-Collins,
25,
broke into a family’s
home in Salem on Friday night and reportedly kid-
napped a woman and her child. The pair were res-
cued and Hahn-Collins arrested after he took them
to a local sporting goods store where the woman
mouthed “Help me” to several customers who then
called police.

Mario Cristobal was named the new coach of the Or-
egon Ducks. The appointment comes after the fum-
bled handling of the departure of former coach Willie
Taggart. Taggart was the subject of rumors for weeks
that alleged he was being courted by Florida to re-
turn home as head coach. Taggart outright denied the
rumors when asked by media and traveled to Flor-
ida for a recruiting meeting representing the Ducks
before meeting with Florida offi cials. Cristobal has
been part of the Ducks’ coaching staff and under his
new contract, will earn $12.5 million over fi ve years.

Oregon Growers Analytical (OG Analytical) isn’t
fl ying so high after several media outlets have report-
ed possible ties between the owners and neo-Nazi
groups. Owner Bethany Sherman has issued a state-
ment denying the claims.
•
A report by the Value of Jobs Coalition released ear-
lier this month contends that nearly half of all jobs in
Oregon will be replaced by automation. The jobs—
mostly lower-paying jobs that do not require a de-
gree—include 144,200 in food preparation as well as
positions in manufacturing and retail.

An individual reported a disorderly subject when they saw a
woman at Coiner Park sitting on the park bench near the bathroom
and hitting her head on the table.
An individual on Chamberlain Ave. reported that their neighbor
had pulled off a couple of boards on their fence and taken a bag of
empty cans.
A 50 year-old on London Rd. drove up a driveway and requested
a medic after he possibly had a heart attack.
A mother reported harassment after a group of six juveniles fol-
lowed her daughter home from school and were threatening her.

nounced that he
would resign his seat in Congress after repeated
coating by leadership and the revelation that several
women had accused him of sexual harassment.

Bitcoin has risen sharply in price from below $1,000
to more than $20,000 in the last four months. Bitcoin,
a type of electronic currency, debuted in 2009.
•
U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) reported last week
that she believes women who believe they have been
assaulted or harassed have the right to speak up, in-
cluding the dozens of women who alleged President
Donald Trump of the behavior.
•
NOAA reported that North Atlantic right whales are
in peril. The animal, already on the endangered spe-
cies list, could face extinction given the current trend
lines of the animals’ population. Approximately 450
right whales are left in the wild. 17 of them were
killed in 2017.
•
Iowa representative Steven King (R) tweeted earlier
this week, “Diversity is not our strength. Hungarian
Prime Minister Victor Orban, ‘Mixing cultures will
not lead to a higher quality of life but a lower one.’”
•
A horse training facility in San Diego County is re-
porting that at least 46 of its horses were killed in the
wildfi res after being unable to leave their stalls.
•
A pipe bomb exploded in New York City's subway
system on Monday, Dec. 11. Akayed Ullah strapped
the device to his chest and attempted to set it off as
New Yorkers headed to work on Monday morning.
The device malfunctioned, however and Ullah was
the only person injured. New York offi cials reported
Ullah acted in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes against
Syria.

A woman reports that her purse was stolen from her cart while at
a grocery store on main street. The complainant was able to get her
purse back but there was approximately $160 missing.
December 8
A woman reported that a driver is dealing drugs out of this travel
trailer on Gateway Blvd.
December 9
Two callers called to report a man walking in the middle of traf-
fi c, hitting signs, yelling and fl ipping off cars on Hwy. 99.
An individual was told by a neighbor that someone has been trap-
ping cats. The individual that called also reported that their cat dis-
appeared approximately a month ago.
What sounded like gunshots was heard coming from a house on
Lane St. The individual saw three fl ashes and heard three booms.

A woman on Delight Valley School Rd. reported that when she
woke up and noticed a man sitting on her barn roof.
A gas station on 9th street reported that an individual got $57.75
of gas and then drove off without paying.
