South Lane County Fire & Rescue invites qualifi ed
individuals to apply for the position of Firefi ghter/
Paramedic. South Lane County is located in the southern
part of the Willamette Valley. Th e Fire District serves an
area of approximately 28,000 residents in approximately
110 square miles. Th e Cities of Cottage Grove and Creswell
are located within the Fire District. Th e Fire District also
provides ALS transporting medic service to an area of 800
square miles.
Firefi ghter/Paramedics perform emergency medical
procedures along with various fi re suppression, prevention,
and apparatus operation techniques and activities. District
Firefi ghter/Paramedic routinely work a 48/96 hour shift
rotation including assignment to a transporting ALS Medic
unit. Firefi ghter/Paramedics may be assigned to a 40 hour
position. Th is position maintains all District equipment
and apparatus through regular inspection programs
and includes minor repairs. Th is position responds to
fi re, rescue and EMS alarms as part of a team comprised
of career and reserve personnel, including automatic
mutual aid companies. District employees participate in
fi re prevention inspections, public education programs
and pre-fi re planning. District personnel are expected to
participate in ongoing training and continuing education
programs. Th is position must maintain Oregon Paramedic
certifi cation as a condition of continued employment.
Minimum qualifi cations include:
1. High school graduate or equivalent;
2. Possess or have the ability to obtain Class C, Oregon
driver’s license;
3. Oregon Paramedic certifi cation at time of hire or by
end of the twelve-month probationary period.
4. Certifi ed/Current NFPA FF-1
Additional Preferred Qualifi cations:
1. Completion of a minimum of 15 credit hours of
college level courses, with specifi c courses related to
the fi re service.
2. NFPA Driver/Pump Operator accreditation
3. Wild land Suppression training (S-130, S-190 )
4. Associate Degree in Fire Science, EMS or related fi eld.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Submit South Lane County Fire & Rescue application and
copies of minimum certifi cations, by 5:00 PM January 19,
2018. Qualifi ed applicants will be selected to participate
in a written, skill and physical agility testing process and
interview. Qualifi ed candidates will be notifi ed of testing
dates. Tentative dates are scheduled for February 2-3, 2018
(subject to change).
Testing process will involve:
