After Connie's beloved dog, Abby, died, she felt that it was im-
paws-ible to fi nd another dog as amazing. Luckily, she was wrong.
One afternoon, as she was sewing a Halloween dog costume for
a friend's Saint Bernard, a second friend arrived with their Saint
Bernard, Kade, as a model to fi t the costume.
"It was love at fi rst sight for both Kade and myself," said Connie.
And the next thing she heard was unbelievable, "Would you con-
sider adopting Kade?" asked her friend. "With my husband's illness,
we can no longer keep him."
The friend suggested that Connie keep the dog overnight, so
she could fi nish fi tting the costume and get to know him better. It
worked, by bedtime, her family had fallen in love with their over-
night guest.
Everyone was vying for the dog's attention and asking to sleep
with him, so they left their bedroom doors open so he could choose
who to sleep with.
Then at 5 a.m. Kade insistently tried waking Connie's husband,
Mike, by pawing at him. Mike responded by pushing Kade away
commenting on "slobbering Saint Bernards."
"After failing to awaken my husband," said Connie. "the Saint'
came around to my side of the bed, jumped up, and laid down on top
of my body where he continued scratching Mike trying to arouse
him."
Mike gave in, rolled over, and saw that Connie, a diabetic, was
unconscious and in shock from a deadly insulin reaction. Her body
temperature was below 90. She was freezing to death. Their alarm
clock wasn't set to go off for another two hours. She would not have
survived.
"Kade was trying to alert and wake Mike to take care of me,"
said Connie. "My husband rushed off to bring me juice to raise my
blood sugar, and Kade did just what Saints' are trained to do. He laid
his body over the top of mine, wrapped his head around me, and let
his warm breath warm my body.
"Without any doubt, I know God worked a miracle that night by
sending Kade to save my life," said Connie, "What an incredible
dog to alert my husband.
As I lay unconscious, I knew I was dying and pictured Abby.
Since that day, I have felt Abby's presence every time I look into
Kade's eyes. After that night, there was never any question of where
Kade would live."
Kade was never medically trained. Without fail, when he sensed
that Connie was about to have an insulin problem, long before she
knew it, he went over to an open pack of Pepsi, and took her a can.
He dropped it in her hand insistently making her drink it. Every
time, when she tested her blood sugar, it proved that Kade was al-
ways right.
Kade was sent by God," said Connie, "I am thankful to my Saint'
for giving me more time with my children and husband. He was the
best dog we ever had!"
NOTE:
Dearest Readers,
What makes Kade's story extra amazing is that it and my six-
month-old kitten, Myster E., also saved MY life.
My husband's hobby is tearing a house apart and fi xing it up
again. At the time, we were unaware of NO VOC paints. My hus-
band would hum away painting walls, cabinets, ceilings, staining
wood trim, and send wallboard dust etc., fumes wafting through the
house. Eventually, the construction particles/fumes took a toll on
my lungs.
The night after writing Kade's article, I went to bed feeling fi ne.
At 3 a.m., I woke up with labored breathing, and lay there for an
hour trying to stay calm and breath evenly.
Myster E. jumped on the bed, came up to my head and insis-
tently/annoyingly started to breath INTO my nose. His whiskers
continually tickled my face arousing me more.
I pushed him away gasping, "Please don't. I am having enough
trouble breathing on my own."
Then a light bulb went off reminding me of Kade helping Con-
nie, so I tried standing up. This attack was dangerous. I could not
stand.
My family drove me to the emergency room. I will never forget
what Myster E., a mere kitten, brilliantly did by alerting me and try-
ing to breathe life into me! There is no doubt that Kade's story and
Myster E.'s actions saved my life. Thank you, Connie, and Kade. It
was a miracle we met and wrote the article when we did.
Tips
"Animals sixth sense is amazing," said Brenda in Kentucky's tor-
nado belt. "I've learned from watching horses that when a storm is
forecast, and they remain calm not to worry. When they run to the
barn I pay attention. Horses do not mind getting wet so we know it
is not just' rain that is on its way!
Also, my Great Pyrenees, Belle, was sleeping with me when I
had night terrors. She awoke me by gathering me up in her giant
paws, holding me tight. I was doubly grateful."
