COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL OCTOBER 25 2017 5C
Update from Dorena School for October
Flu season is already upon us and here at Dorena we are helping stop kids from catching the flu. On
Wednesday Oct. 4th, as part of Dorena’s Resource Hub, Nancy Wiley from Walmart Pharmacy came
out and delivered flu shots to 20 staff, students and parents. She will here again on November 1st, so
if you still need that flu shot, stop by between 1:00 and 2:30. We continue to reach out to the Dorena
community with a new Toddlers program. Our PE teacher, Val Rocco, alongside Peggy’s Primary
Connections, will be offering a Toddler play and learn program on Sunday afternoons. Stay tuned for
more information. Lastly, our first Annual Coat Exchange will be on November 1st. Please send in
gently used or outgrown coats in exchange for “new” gently used and right size coats.
Dorena Middle School Students are participating in a program brought to us by Coast Fork Willa-
mette Water Shed Council. They are learning about the local water shed and the native vegetation
and animal in the Dorena area. This week they removed invasive blackberries and planted Thimble
Berries in their place.
Grades K-5 will be going to Ruby and Amber’s Farm on Monday October 23 thanks to South Lane’s
Farm to School Grant. To kick off CATCH this year, the staff has challenged the students to a volley
ball game on November 15th from 12:00-1:00. Come cheer us on. That same week, on Friday, is
our PAX award assembly. You are all invited to share the excitement as we honor our Panthers.
Information on this page was provided by Dorena School. All schools within
the South Lane School District are welcome to submit photos or stories to
the "School News" section. The section is printed once a month, on the last
Wednesday of the month. Deadline for photos and stories is the Friday prior to
the Wednesday the newspaper is published.
Send all material to cmay@cgsentinel.com.
