sports recap
A look back at the busy
week of high school
sports in the area
Cottage Grove Volleyball (9-8,
6-3)
Last Thursday the Lions de-
feated Junction City 3-1 in their
fi nal home game of the year. At
the Marshfi eld Invite over the
weekend, the team beat Marsh-
fi eld 2-0 but fell to Coquille 2-1.
Cottage Grove Cross-Country
Saturday both teams compet-
ed at the George Fox Invite in
Salem. On the boys side, the
team fi nished in third out of
the nineteen teams at the Varsi-
ty Bronze race with 99 points.
Stayton fi nished fi rst and South
Albany second with 56 and 73
points respectively. Leading the
way for the Lions was Konrad
Raum who placed 6th overall
and fi nished in a time of 16:43
which was his fi rst time under
17 minutes. Jimmy Talley and
Paesen Timm fi nished in 19th
and 21st place. Jesse Eling-
worth fi nished in 28th and Kon-
nor Owens rounded out the top
fi ve at 52nd.
On the girls side, the team
fi nished 10th of 13 teams at
the Varsity Bronze level. Na-
dia Witt and Stella Sobotkova
placed 58th and 59th in times
of 23:36 and 23:37 respectively,
both recording personal records.
Leslie Chacon-Romero, Lizbeth
Zarate-Hernandez and Jenn Si-
mons were the other fi nishers
in the top fi ve fi nishing in 66th,
70th and 84th.
North Douglas Football (5-2,
3-0)
The Warriors beat Mohawk
54-6 on the road last Friday.
With the win, the team stayed
undefeated in league play.
Elkton Football (5-1, 3-1)
In their last home game of the
season, the Elks beat Powers
26-6 last Friday. The Elks are
now ranked 8th in 1A football
with just one game left before
the playoffs begin.
Elkton Volleyball (16-6, 8-4)
The Elks beat Camas Valley
last Tuesday in straight sets
before getting swept by Days
Creek on Thursday. The team is
now third in league.
Yoncalla Football (3-4, 2-1)
The Eagles lost at Falls City
84-32 last Friday.
Yoncalla Volleyball (3-13,
2-10)
The Eagles were beat in
straight sets against North
Douglas and Powers last week
in their fi nal games of the sea-
son.
