ties in the fi rst half, just didn’t
capitalize, like previously in the
season, but fi nally persevered
and fought back,” said Levings.
After now having played each
team in the league once, Lev-
ings is looking forward to get-
ting a chance to see these teams
again.
“They didn’t come out fl at
today. They were energized and
ready to go,” she said. “I’m ex-
cited because I think we will
split a lot of games with a lot of
teams.” This game came on the
heels of a 6-0 loss on Tuesday
to Junction City on the road that
left Levings disappointed in the
effort of her team.
After the win, the Lions have
now matched their league wins
from last season.
It was
a night of
goals for the Cottage Grove
girls soccer team.
On Thursday night at home
they beat Sweet Home 4-1 for
their second win of the season.
“Finally. Will you just write
fi nally,” said an excited head
coach Reed Levings. “Finally.
Finally. Finally, get one in the
back of the net.”
It started with a Cameron An-
derson free kick from 30 yards
out. Then Annie Gibson scored
via a one-on-one with the goal-
ie to put the Lions up 2-0. Both
Anderson and Annie then found
the net again later in the half to
put Cottage Grove up 4-0 before
the Huskies grabbed a goal in
the last minute of the game.

Last Thursday, the Cottage
Grove volleyball team host-
ed Sweet Home in a battle
for second place in Sky-Em
league but fell to the Huskies
3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 26-28, 25-
17, 11-15).
“I’m proud of their perfor-
mance. Proud of their hard
work and putting stuff togeth-
er and coming out with energy
and I’m just excited about that
part,” said head coach Kend-
ra Anderson. “Sweet Home
is a tough team and they’ve
been building for awhile and
they’ve hit their peak.”
Coming into the match,
both teams were 3-1 in league
and had both lost to the pow-
erhouse that is the Sisters vol-
leyball team.
Freshman Matty Ladd was
a bright spot for the Lions
as she recorded 12 blocks
and four kills. Lauren Witty
added 40 assists for Cottage
Grove who could not over-
come the barrage of hits from
Sweet Home’s Ally Tow.
“We had a great night of
having a hard hitter hit at
us,” said Anderson. So get-
ting some of the defense part,
working on that, which will
get us ready for the next game
is great preparation.”
Anderson noted that despite
getting down, she liked the at-
titude that the team brought to
this game and to every game.
“I think the girls and their
personality bring it to the
court,” she said. “I think ev-
eryday they bring that excite-
ment and love for volleyball
and they bring that energy
and so we just got to build on
that.”
