Go chasing waterfalls: A hikers guide
While the state of Oregon is
known for its hikes, there is hard-
ly a better spot to go exploring
than the surrounding Cottage
Grove area. Just a quick walk
can lead to a whole host of wa-
terfalls that are simply not seen in
other areas. With some guidance
from Travel Lane County, here
are some of the best hikes in the
area.
The best way to go about these
hikes is to pair them together
and make a day trip out of it.

Moon Falls

Directions: Travel east on Row River Rd for 19.4 miles,
turn left on Layng Creek Road #17 for 8.8 miles, turn
right on F.S. Rd #1790 for .3 miles, left on F.S. Rd
#1702 for 2.8 miles, right on F.S. Rd #1702-728 for .3
miles and left on F.S. Rd #1702-203 for .3 miles.
Hike: The hike itself is just over a half mile and pretty
fl at. Great for the whole family.
Pinard Falls

Directions: Travel east on Row River Rd, turn left on
Layng Creek Rd #17 for 8.8 miles, turn right on F.S. Rd
#1790 for 3.6 miles.
Hike: While under a mile, this hike is mostly uphill but
is well worth the view.
Lower Trestle Falls

Spirit Falls

Directions: Travel east on Row River Rd for 19.4 miles,
left on Layng Creek Rd for 8.8 miles, right on F.S. Rd
#1790.
Hike: This short hike of less than a mile takes you
downhill to the powerfully fl owing Spirit Falls.

Directions: Travel east on Row River 19.4 miles to
junction of Layng Creek Road (#17) and Brice Creek
Road (#2470/22). Turn right on Brice Creek Road, trav-
eling 8.3 miles. Park at Brice/Champion Creek trail-
head before bridge. Cross bridge and pick upper or
lower or both. The path loops around.
Hike: My personal favorite hike. With Upper, you get
to walk under a waterfall and you can follow the path
[cont. from Upper] to Lower. The start of Upper is up-
hill. The two can be done together for a nice three mile
walk. Either can be done by themself and the trail signs
will lead you where you want to go.
