North Douglas Softball wins state title
Girls take home the win in Corvallis against Pilot Rock
The girls of North Douglas' softball team brought something home this weekend: the state championship. The team outlasted Pilot Rock in Corvallis on Friday, June 2 to win the 2A/1A state high school
softball title. Kalli Frieze, Lilly Downie and Amy Dooley came through with good performances before the team grabbed a 3-1 win over Pilot Rock.

Travis Howell has been riding motorbikes since he was fi ve years old. This summer, he'll compete in a national competition with the hope of joining a team.

time. And the third time.
"I cried every time he put me on in," How-
ell said. But now, nearly a decade later, he's headed to Tennessee to
compete at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in a national competition.
"He worked really hard," Howell's mother explained. The former
Lincoln Middle School student bounces between attending classes
and registering for home school when he's on the road competing.
The family travels for weeks at a time for Howell's competitions
and shuttle him from Eugene and Albany to practice when he's not
on his home track in his yard.
An injury this year threatened his lifelong dream of competing
at the ranch when he broke the bone in his leg and then his wrist.
"They said I wouldn't be able to ride for months and I was back
on my bike in weeks," Howell said.
He's been on the bike since he was fi ve-years-old and he credits
practicing on his home track and the support of his parents and sis-
ter Sierra for his success.

Howell's 15-year-old sister Sierra is his biggest fan and attends every race.
