Cottage Grovers came out in numbers to soak up the sunshine and run, jog, walk and stroll around the Kennedy
High School neighborhoods in celebration of healthy family activities in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention
Month this past Friday in the 3rd Annual Great Ice Cream Bowl. The fun run walk event served more than 250 sun-
daes according to event coordinators Jan and Jerry Settelmeyer. A combination of local families and the Lincoln
Middle School track team along with solo athletes, participated.
Drug take back event
The Lane County Sheriff's Offi ce and Drug
Enforcement Agency held its 8th Annual Na-
tional Drug Take Back Event on April 29, 2017,
aimed at providing a resource for Lane County
residents to safely, securely and anonymous-
ly turn in their unwanted, outdated or expired
household medicines. The sheriff’s offi ce has
participated in this program for several years
and has been successful in removing hundreds
of pounds of medications for safe disposal. In
2016, 185 pounds of medications were turned
in by the community of Lane County. Residents
were invited to bring their unwanted, outdated
or expired prescription and over-the-counter
medications in for safe disposal. For residents
who were unable to attend the Drug Take Back
Event and have medications they would like to
dispose of, the Lane County Sheriff’s Offi ce
has a Drug Drop Box located in the Central Re-
ception lobby in the Lane County Courthouse
that is available to accept medications Monday
through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, ex-
cluding legal holidays. The Cottage Grove Po-
lice Station also has a box in the lobby of their
offi ce located on Main St. inside of city hall.
In an article published
in The Sentinel on April
19, entitled "Within
their means," it was
reported that Drain, Or-
egon residents pay less
for water service than
residents in Cottage
Grove. However, water
and sewer costs are
separated into two bills
in Drain which add to a
total of $100. Cottage
Grove rates average
$100 per month as well
but include both water
and sewer.

the comparison. Please
