ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE AT MIDDLE
SCHOOL UNTIL MAY 1
We are starting the 2017 Great Attendance Chal-
lenge this week!! If you were here last year, you
might remember that we looked at the attendance
percentages for each grade level for a two week
period. The grade with the highest attendance
percentage will earn an F party. That’s phones,
food and fun during FLEX!!
And why the Great Attendance Challenge?
Because we know that when our students are at
school as much as possible, they learn more and
achieve to a higher level. Please take a look at
our attendance thermometer near the inside mid-
dle hallway. It shows that we have 94% of our
students attending school throughout the fi rst 7
months of the year. Our goal is to fi nish the last
two months at an even higher level.
So, for the next two weeks, make sure you are at
school as much as possible. If you do that, you
will help your class be the one class at LMS to
earn an F party.

Lion's Pride raises $16,000
Money will go to the Children's Miracle Network
Zane Levings is the Lion
King. Levings was named
winner of the annual Lion
Pride's Pageant on Satur-
day, April 22 during the Zany Dance. Levings
raised the most money for the Children's Mira-
cle Network but as a group, the contestants raised
$16,000.
The total fell short of the $22,000 goal.
According to the high school, "The purpose
of the Lion's Pride Pageant is to raise money for
the Children's Miracle Network. This organiza-
tion provides money for Springfi eld RiverBend
Sacred Heart Hospital's neonatal and pediatric
units. These units of the hospital help not only
premature babies, but also any child throughout
their teenage years who requires hospitalization."
The statement went on to note that several Cot-
tage Grove High School students have benefi

tted from the Children's Miracle Network's rela-
tionship with the pageant throughout the years.
Moreover, the high school will a receive 10 per-
cent return on whatever funds it raises through
the event. The pageant contestants have been on
the go since February with several events already
completed including a kick-off dinner, Valentine's
night babysitting and a dodgeball tournament. A
signifi cant change to the program this year is the
addition of female students. In its long history, the
Lion's Pride, formally known as the Lion's King
Pageant, has had only male students participate.
According to the high school, "These girls are pi-
oneers in our new perspective of the pageant and I
am thrilled to bring them into our fold. This year,
Hannah Albrecht, Lauren Fields and Elizabeth
will usher in future female students as part of the
Lion's Pride program.
