City of Cottage Grove

Jan Wellman is headed for Iceland. The trip comes as one of many, including a three-month stay in
Ireland and will serve as the kick-off to the now former Cottage Grove Public Works Director's retire-
ment.
"One thing that struck me with Jan," said Cottage Grove Mayor Jeff Gowing, "is we were having an
event and we needed clean bathrooms. I called Richard (Meyers) but he was out-of-town at a confer-
ence. Next thing I know, here comes Jan on a Saturday, cleaning the bathrooms. We had a department
head who led by example."
The sentiment was a popular one during Wellman's farewell send off at the armory on Friday, March
31. Department heads, the city manager and family and friends gathered to recognize Wellman's tears
with the city of Cottage Grove.
