the aforementioned seniors.
He racked up eight RBIs off of
28 hits. He also had two triples
on the season, something Pres-
ley only did once.
Ollivant also earned the Sky-
Em’s Pitcher of the Year award
with a 2.00 ERA and one shut-
out. As the starting pitcher, Olli-
vant held a 77.8 win percentage.
Ollivant won’t be alone when
it comes to fi lling the shoes of
the departed seniors. Jaydin Os-
bin will also be a current senior
to watch out for. He fi nished
last season with a .235 batting
average and a 31.6 on-base per-
centage.
It will be tough for Cottage
Grove to fi nish at the top of the
Sky-Em for a consecutive year
without players such as Pres-
ley, who was awarded Sky-Em
Player of the Year in 2016. But
the Lions still have plenty of
potential as younger players are
now more experienced.
Cottage Grove became experts at stealing bases last year. The team doubled the national average with 108 steals in 2016,
leading the Sky-Em league.

during the fall as part of the
second-place football team.
Paesen Timm will also return
as one of the top distance run-
ners in the Sky-Em League, and
he will be assisted with new-
comer Jesse Ellingworth, who
fi nished in second place at the
district cross country champi-
onships.
On the girls’ side, there were
fewer impactful losses as op-
posed to the boys’ team. Return-
ing this year will be Hannah Al-
brecht, now a senior, who was
a state qualifi er in four different
sprinting events last year (100,
200, 400 and 4x100-meter rac-
es). Senior Hudson Weybright
also qualifi ed for state in the
3000-meter race, and Keara
Murphy was a state qualifi er
in the high jump, and Knutson
says she will be a top contender
in all of the jumping events this
season.
Knutson also reports that
newcomer Sabrina James made
training adjustments over the
winter after fi nishing in 10th
place at the district meet for
cross country and “is prepared
to surprise some teams this
spring in the distances events.”
Every year, Cottage Grove
strives to be a contender to
take all three Sky-Em Trophies,
which include boys, girls and
coed.
“The guys and girls take a lot
of pride in working together to
ensure the success of both pro-
grams,” Knutson noted. “We
hope to see this strength and
balance again in May when we
battle at the Sky-Em Champion-
ships in Sutherlin.
