Latham happenings
Submitted by Latham Elementary
Our February Afterschool Clubs were a
huge success! They included Valentine’s
Day Crafts/Board Games, Science Fun,
Chess, Jump roping, and a Preschool Sto-
rytime with Mrs. McMichael, our kinder-
garten teacher. The preschool story time
allowed future kindergarten students to get
a taste for what they will see and do in kin-
dergarten next year. We hope to have a few
more sessions of preschool story time be-
fore the school year is over.
Beginning next week, Latham students
will read their way around the world to earn
books and fun adventures. Also, the week
of February 27-March 3, we will celebrate
Dr. Seuss’s birthday with Spirit Week: Hat
Day (Cat in the Hat), Crazy Socks (Fox in
Socks), Crazy Dress (Wacky Wednesday),
Favorite Dr. Seuss Character, and Wear a
Shirt You Can Read (I Can Read With My
Eyes Shut). March 2 is our Science Fair
Night and our Reading Faire with ideas for
parents to take home. We hope to see a lot
of students and families participate!

SLSD holds open enrollment, window March 1-April 1
South Lane School District, in compliance with HB3681, has de-
termined the number of non-resident students that will be accepted
for enrollment for the school year 2017-2018.
The Open Enrollment window is between March 1 and April 1,
2017. Non-resident students may apply to transfer from their res-
ident district to South Lane School District. If more requests for
transfers are received than slots available, a lottery will be held.
Once a student is accepted into South Lane School District under
HB3681, he/she will be considered a ‘resident’ of SLSD through
grade 12. Exceptions to this are if the student withdraws from the
SLSD school in which enrolled or moves out of state.
South Lane School District declares the following openings in
enrollment for Non-Resident Students:
Openings are declared by grade levels. Students currently attend-
ing an SLSD school on an out-of-district transfer agreement will be
given priority and while every attempt will be made to accommo-
date specifi c school requests, it is not guaranteed.
Interested Non-Resident students must submit a completed South
Lane School District Open Enrollment form to the SLSD District
Offi ce or an SLSD school by 4:00 pm on April 1, 2017. Accepted
applicants will be notifi ed no later than May 1, 2017.
For further information contact Tonya Kerns at South Lane
School District Offi ce, 541-942-3381 ext. 121 or visit the district’s
