Cottage Grove fi nished with
11 steals and forced 14 turn-
overs, and the bench racked up
14 points.
Reminiscent of last year’s
season, it was Parent who led
the way on the scoreboard, with
a season-high of 29 points. Par-
ent was 10-for-15 from the fi eld,
shot 60 percent from the three-
point line and had three steals
and two defensive rebounds on
the night.
Sentman had 24 points, shoot-
ing eight-for-14 from the fi eld
and 33 percent from beyond the
arc.
Jesse Ellingworth stood out
with 10 points on the night.
Though Hunter Gipson was
relatively quiet on the score-
board, he fi nished with fi ve
assists, four steals and three
blocks.
With only two games left in
the regular season, the Lions
still don’t control their own
destiny. Sisters barely escaped
Elmira and Junction City in
the fi rst round of league play,
but should they win again, the
Lions will need a tie breaker.
But Cottage Grove still has to
defeat Sutherlin, a team that
held the Lions to their lowest
scoring game before the Sis-
ters game. Cottage Grove will
need to win both games against
Sutherlin and Junction City and
then hope that Sisters falls to El-
mira or Junction City this week.
Weybright walked away with
four defl ections on the night and
Child totaled three steals. Sierra
Blomquist also had three steals
and three defl ections. Inside the
paint, there was Ema Gardner,
who fi nished the night with two
steals, two defl ections and two
blocks (not to mention fi ve as-
sists on offense).
Keara Murphy led the team
in scoring with 11 points on the
night, followed by Gardner and
Maria Pardee with seven points
each.
After the road game against
Sisters, Cottage Grove then had
to travel to Sweet Home on Fri-
day to play against the Huskies,
where they found similar suc-
cess on both sides of the ball.
This time, the Lions held their
opponent to just 14.29 percent
from the fi eld while shooting 41
percent themselves.
Cottage Grove and Sweet
Home were in a close 18-11
game at halftime, until the Li-
ons outscored the Huskies 16-4
in the third quarter. At 34-15
going into the fourth quarter, the
game was in the Lions’ hands
and Cottage Grove won 43-21.
The Lions fi nished with fi ve
blocks, 13 steals and 25 defl ec-
tions on defense. Weybright,
Murphy, Blomquist and Kelty
all had two steals each along
with Gardner who had three
steals and two blocks.
Kelty led the team in scoring
with 12 points. Gardner fi nished
with seven.
Though in both games the Li-
ons failed to reach their goal of
out-rebounding their opponent
by at least 12, the defense made
up for the rebounding this week.
Cottage Grove now faces
Sutherlin this week, the last
home game of the regular sea-
son on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 5:45
p.m. The last game of the Lions’
regular season will be played at
Junction City on Friday, Feb. 17
at the same time.

In the 200-yard inter-medley
relay, Chambers was able to
qualify with a time of 2:22.06,
beating out Austin Leep from
Marshfi eld by two seconds for
the last qualifying spot.
Two Aqua Lions from the
boys’ team qualifi ed for the
500-yard freestyle. Dukes took
fourth with 5:15.26 and Pifer
took fi fth place with a time of
5:55.90. He was the last person
to fi nish the race in under six
minutes.
The last individual qualifi er
was Chambers, who took fi fth
place in the 100-yard back-
stroke. Chambers fi nished in
61.07 seconds, less than two
seconds behind the fi rst-place
fi nisher Jasper Zhu from St.
Mary’s.
Finally, the boys’ relay team
qualifi ed again by taking third
place in the 400-yard freestyle
relay with a time of 3:54.84.
The team qualifi ers now look
to the state fi nals, which will be
held this upcoming weekend at
Mt. Hood Community College.
The fi rst session will begin at
6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.

If everything goes right, the Li-
