Schelin completes
basic training
U.S. Air Force Airman Eric R.
Schelin Jr. graduated from basic mil-
itary training at Joint Base San Anto-
nio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an inten-
sive, eight-week program that in-
cluded training in military discipline
and studies, Air Force core values,
physical fi tness and basic warfare
principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic train-
ing also earn four credits toward an
associate in applied science degree
through the Community College of
the Air Force.
Schelin is the son of Jocelynn and
Eric R. Schelin of Cottage Grove. He
is a 2016 graduate of Cottage Grove
High School.

Members of the Cottage Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3473 Aux-
iliary recently mailed care packages to 97 local men and women serv-
ing their country overseas in the Armed Forces.
The Cottage Grove Museum in-
vites the public to view its annual
holiday tradition: Stained Glass and
Candlelight, which includes a tour
of the museum’s historic imported
stained glass windows with historian
Joanne Skelton and a holiday music
sing-along with the Museum’s Vic-
trola.
The stained glass windows will
remain illuminated Friday, Satur-
day and Sunday evenings from dusk
until 10 p.m. from Saturday, Dec. 3
through New Year’s Eve.
Guests are invited to stop by for
friendship and refreshments on Sat-
urday, Dec. 3, from 6-8 p.m. Skel-
ton’s window tours will take place at
6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and guests can
view the Museum’s holiday exhibit,
Christmas Toys for Girls and Boys,
featuring toys from the past from its
collection, on exhibit now through
the end of 2016.
Admission is free but donations
are encouraged. Light refreshments
will be served.

Holiday Memorial
Service
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel
invites those who have experienced
the loss of a loved one to its 29th
Holiday Memorial Service, a special
program is designed to give com-
fort and strength during the holiday
season, on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.
The service takes place at the funeral
chapel, located at 123 S. Seventh St.
Everyone is welcome to this com-
munity-wide gathering: The pro-
gram includes live music, readings,
a memorial slideshow presentation
and a candle lighting ceremony.
There will be a hosted reception
with holiday treats and refreshments
following the service.
The fi rst Holiday Memorial ser-
vice was held in Cottage Grove in
1987 and was organized by Doug
Lund, former owner of Smith-Lund-
Mills. It has since become an annual
tradition.
