All they wanted for Christmas was ... Celebs unwrap
stories of their favorite gifts from Yuletide past
“The only thing that comes to mind is that
one year, we decided we weren’t going to do
expensive gifts for each other, and we had a $20
limit. My sister had donated the money on our
behalf, so I bought a goat for a family. And that
was my gift, that I bought a goat for somebody
else, and that was probably my favorite Christmas.
It really stripped everything down to us just being
together, and it wasn’t about the frantic behavior
of trying to get great gifts. It removed one whole
side of it that I thought we would miss, and I didn’t
miss it at all. It actually was a richer experience.”
– Missy Peregrym of “Hawaii Five-0” on
CBS
“It’s been like a trip somewhere
with all of us – to Rome. We went to
Rome. So something with traveling
and being together, I like that.” –
Talia Balsam of “Divorce” on
HBO
“It might not make sense to anybody,
but I really like a fresh pair of clean
socks. When I was struggling for 12
or 13 years as an actor, there was a
woman in my life who’s since passed
away … and you could go to a
corner in New York City where a guy
was selling T-shirts and socks out of
these carts. You could buy a pair of
socks for a dollar, and when I’d have
a really tough day, she’d say, ‘I’ve
got a dollar. Go buy a pair of socks
on the way home, and put them on
before you go to bed.’ And it would
bring joy to me. Just the simplest
thing, and it never has left me.”
– David Eigenberg of
“Chicago Fire” on NBC
“I would have to say my son,
because he was born on Dec.
6, and that’s close enough.”
– Jennifer Nettles, seen
recently on NBC’s “Dolly
Parton’s Christmas of Many
Colors: Circle of Love “
“I remember being a young kid, probably
no more than eight years old, and I
got new skateboard wheels – right
when we had gone from clay wheels to
polyurethane. We called them ‘Cadillac
wheels’ back in the day, and I remember
being so happy about that. It was one of
the most joyous times in my life. I didn’t
realize, of course, that we got sort of the
low-end version and the generic ripoffs
… but I didn’t care. That was something I
really, really wanted.”
– Dean Cain, seen recently on
“Broadcasting Christmas” on
Hallmark Channel
