2A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL November 30, 2016 IN MEMORIAM Theodore “Ted” Evans 1971 – 2016 Theodore “Ted” Evans, 45, died Nov. 19 of lung cancer. Ted was born in Cottage Grove on Nov. 3, 1971. He gradu- ated from Cottage Grove High School in 1989 and lived in Portland and Sa- lem before eventually returning to Cottage Grove. He married Tammi Ross in 2005. They have two daughters. Ted worked at Alvord Tay- lor in Eugene as a Direct Sup- port Professional. He was an outspoken advocate for people with developmental disabilities and believed that they deserve the dignity of living as inde- pendently as possible. He also owned a photography business that specialized in weddings and special events. Ted was an avid reader, a quick study, a good shot, a de- voted family man and a quick- witted debater. He liked cook- ing, photography, target and tactical shooting, driving, cigars and Scotch. His greatest joy was his daughters, who made every day worth fi ghting for. He is survived by his wife, Tammi; daughters Brynlee and Haylee of Cottage Grove; moth- er Rebecca Evans of Cottage Grove; sisters Laurel Mavuwa of Happy Valley, Kate Erick- son of West Linn, Verda Dew of Beaverton, and Helen Evans of Florence; and brothers Dan Bice of Sandy and Mike Evans of Lincoln City. He was preceded in death by his father, Skip Evans of Cot- tage Grove. Arrangements are with An- dreason’s Cremation & Burial Service in Springfi eld. A Cel- ebration of Life will be held at a later date. Bernice Ellen Fisher 1939-2016 Bernice Ellen Fisher, 77, of Creswell died Nov. 5, 2016. She was born in Waitsburg, COMBINED BAND CONCERT SUNDAY IN EUGENE A combined band concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 3355 Fox Meadow in Eugene. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted. The concert will feature the Or- egon Brass Society in its 13th season, conducted by Dr. Chris Chapman, Director of Bands at Oregon State University. Also appearing will be the Eugene Symphonic Band, in its 59th season, conducted by Dr. Rod- ney Dorsey, Director of Bands at the University of Oregon. The Oregon Brass Society, which is a British-style Brass Band, has brass players and percussionists from throughout western Oregon. Their program will include seasonal selections and carols. The Eugene Symphonic Band is a concert band which has all the woodwind, brass and percussion musicians. Their program will include Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo by Mal- colm Arnold. Wash. on May 1, 1939 to George and Nellie Lee (Hinder- man) Stockdale. She grad- uated from Cottage Grove High School in 1958 and attended Lane Com- munity College before transferring to the University of Oregon, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. On July 18, 1964 in Cottage Grove, she and Delmar “Bud” Fisher were married. She worked in automotive dealerships in Cottage Grove in the 1950s for Keith Roberts Ford and Bud Betz Chevrolet. She taught school in Yoncalla and Drain grade schools and was a substitute teacher in the county area. She owned “Bern’s Nee- dle Art” in Cottage Grove. She worked at the Cottage Grove Walmart until her retirement. Bernice enjoyed sewing, knit- ting, crocheting and needle art. She was a very good cook and loved to travel. She was a mem- ber of the Dorena Grange and the Cottage Grove Genealogical Society. She is survived by her hus- band, Delmar “Bud” Fisher; stepdaughter Melody (Bob) Da- vidson of Goldendale, Wash.; stepdaughter Denise (Dan) Brown of Cottage Grove; step- son Tim (Julie) Fisher of Eu- gene; sister Georgia Harbaugh of Lebanon, Ore.; sister Lois Witherspoon of Portland, Ore.; brother, Wayne Stockdale of Bend, Ore.; six step-grand- children, 18 step-great-grand- children, one step-great-great- grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepson, Robin Fisher; and step-grandson, Chris Edwards. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016. He was born July 9, 1941 in Cottage Grove to Roy and Edna (Nel- son) Eng- land. David g r a d u - ated from Cottage Grove High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy. David married Marilyn Free- man and later married Linda Levings on May 23, 2007 in Reno, Nev. He worked for 44 years as a log scaler for Weyerhaeuser. He enjoyed gardening and golf and was a member of the Middlefi eld Men’s Club. Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughter Kellie (Bill) Gilfi llan of Roseville, Calif.; daughter April (Scott) Larsen of Cottage Grove; stepdaughter Catharine Cichy of Tigard, Ore.; stepson Brad Taylor of Cottage Grove; stepdaughter Wendy (Cody) Hitt of Cottage Grove; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bill Denham, Sr. 1935-2016 Bill Denham, Sr., 81, of Yuma, Arizona passed away Nov. 23, 2016 from age related causes. He was born July 15, 1935 in Cottage Grove to Basil Den- ham and Edith (Ken- nedy) Sum- mers. Bill grad- uated from Cottage Grove High School and served in the Navy. On July 14, 1978 in Jasper, Ore., he and Alice Elliot were married. Bill worked as a log truck driver for Bohemia Lumber Company. He loved hunting, fi shing, golfi ng, woodwork and making wind chimes. He was a longtime Michael “Mike” Kingston Taylor 1942-2016 Michael “Mike” Kingston Taylor, 74 of Creswell, Oregon passed away No- vember 21, 2016. He was born March 27, 1942, in Eugene, OR to Moses and Flora Mae (McCullum) Taylor. Mike graduated from Sutherlin High School and received his AA degree in Mechanics from LCC. He served in the U.S. Marines as a Crew Chief. Mike worked in the lumber industry for more than 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his dogs, he loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed watching them play sports. Mike married Carol Ann Hicks on August 17, 1968, in Creswell, OR. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Taylor, Creswell, OR, mother Flora Mae Taylor, Salem, OR, son Matthew (Arlee) Taylor, Pendleton, OR, brother Tony Taylor, Junction City, OR, sister Cindy Bray, Salem, OR and 2 grandchildren, Marcus and Savannah. Mike was preceded in death by two sons, Bryan and Nicholas Taylor and brother Bob Taylor. Effi e Mae Davis 1933-2016 E f f i e Mae Davis, 83, of Cot- tage Grove p a s s e d away Nov. 25, 2016. She was born Nov. 22, 1933 in Murphy, N.C. to Perry and Zora (Bruce) Aber- nathy. She married Hal Davis of Murphy, N.C. on Dec. 29, 1953, then moved to Cottage Grove shortly thereafter. They had one son, Hal Andrew Davis, Jr. She had great love for her family, especially her grandson and granddaughter. She will be forever remembered for her beautiful abundant gardens, her loving generous heart and her welcoming smile each time she saw you coming.
