Lions upset Fishermen with fourth-
quarter comeback, advance to semifi nals
Down 14-3 at the
start of the fi nal
quarter, Cottage

plays to steal a win

Cottage Grove racked up an-
other victory like they’ve been
doing all season, but this win
came in a much different fash-
ion. The Lions have won by an
average margin of 34 points this
season, their closest game com-
ing from Scappoose in a 24-21
win.
This was the fi rst time Cot-
tage Grove had trailed a game.
Teams have tied the Lions, but
Cottage Grove has never had to
fi ght from behind, let alone trail
for three quarters.
The Lions were down 14-3 as
the fourth quarter started. They
outscored Astoria 22-7 in the fi -
nal quarter to seal a 25-21 quar-
terfi nal victory.
Both offenses struggled all
game, and the score was only
7-3 at the end of the fi rst half.
The Fishermen came back out
and scored in the third quarter,
and Cottage Grove found them-
selves behind two scores enter-
ing the fourth quarter.
But Astoria wasn’t ready for
what the Lions were about to
unleash. A 22-point quarter was
not what the Fishermen were
expecting.

off the most intense
fourth quarter the

season. Cottage Grove

in the fi rst half. How-

shrinking the Lions' def-

After forcing the Fisher-
men to punt, the Lions
found themselves in yet
another fourth-down
situation. But Sentman
and Woods connected
on a 13-yard gain for
a fi rst down. The very
next play, Woods caught
yet another pass, and
he used his fi nesse to
waltz into the endzone
for the go-ahead touch-
down. His teammates
swarmed him after the
score.
"I just wanted to score
and win," he said after
the game.
