From downtown to Delight Valley, here's a bit of what's happening this Halloween
H
alloween is less than a
week away, and the next
few days will offer many chances
to score treats in Cottage Grove.
Here’s a rundown of many of the
area’s events:

Downtown Trick-
or-Treating
The Elks Lodge plans table-
top trick-or-treating on Monday
from 4-6 p.m. The lodge is lo-
cated at 755 N. River Road.
Cottage Grove’s youngsters
can journey to Main Street
downtown for trick-or-treating
on Monday, Oct. 31 from 3-5
p.m.
Chamber of Commerce Direc-
tor Travis Palmer said the event
has been a coordinated planning
effort of the Chamber, the Main
Street Program, City of Cottage
Grove, Cottage Grove Sentinel
and Economic and Business Im-
provement District. Main Street
will be closed beginning at 1:30
p.m. to allow for the setup of
booths for businesses and or-
ganizations that do not have a
storefront on Main Street.
The celebration will feature a
costume contest, pumpkin carv-
ing contest, scavenger hunt, car-
nival games and more.
Delight Valley
Church carnival
The church, located at 33087
Saginaw Road, plans its car-
nival featuring game booths,
candy, hot dogs and punch and a
bounce house, on Monday from
6-8:30 p.m. The admission price

or-Treating
Delight party and
potluck
Delight, located at 538 E.
Main St., plans a party and
potluck on Monday from 3-8
p.m. that will include down-
town trick-or-treating, a “Jack-
box Party Pack: Murder Trivia
Party” hosted by Quint Iverson
from 4-6 p.m. and the chance to
play an assortment of tabletop
games, including Werewolf, Be-
trayal at House on the Hill (with
the new Widow’s Watch expan-
sion), Zombiess!!!, Gloom and
Magic the Gathering (players
are asked to bring a budget Hal-
loween-themed deck).
London Grange
Haunted House
London Grange is offering a
Halloween Event and Haunted
House from Friday, Oct. 28-
Monday, Oct. 31 from 6-9 p.m.
nightly. The event includes sev-
eral free activities such as chil-
dren’s Halloween crafts, mon-
ster slime, sensory activities for
younger children, an animated,
special effects Halloween show,
some trick-or-treat stations and
a costume contest on Monday.
There is also a Jack-O-Lan-
tern decorating contest on Fri-
day (participants can bring their
decorated Jack-O-Lantern and
leave it until Sunday or Mon-
day).
There will be a variety of food
items available for purchase.
The Haunted House is divided
into two parts, one that is less
scary and more ideal for young
children and one that is scarier
and suitable for the “less easily
scared” crowd.
The haunted house has 10
themed rooms and several hall-
ways packed with monsters,
creepy things, animatronics and
special effects. Cost is $3 per
person for admission and $1
off with the donation of a non-
perishable food item. Sunday is
family night, and children ages
12 and under get in free with a
paid adult. The Grange has also
hidden roughly 100 “Rock-O-
Lanterns” all over town that act
as a free ticket to the Haunted
House on any night.

Wars,” “A Nightmare On Sesa-
me Street,” “Saturday Night Of
The Living Dead Fever,” “The
Wizard Of Jaws,” “X-Men of
La Mancha” and “Dances With
Wolverine.” Shows are at 7 p.m.
on Oct. 27, 28 and 29 and Nov.
3, 4 and 5. The Opal Halloween
Show sells out every year, so
those interested are advised to
secure tickets ahead of time at
www.opalcentercg.org or The
Crafty Mercantile at 517 Main
Street downtown. Tickets are
$12 or $10 for Cottage Grove
residents at the Crafty Mercan-
tile. This show is Rated R for
strong language, sexual situa-
tions, and, worst of all, United
States politics.

The ‘mad geniuses’ of the
Opal Halloween Show are back
with the Monster Mash-up, in
which its performers have been
“exhuming pieces of pop cul-
ture and reassembling them,
