Virginia Williams
1952-2016
Virginia Williams, 64, long-
time resident of Cottage Grove,
passed away Friday, Oct. 14
with her family by her side.
Virginia was loved by many.
Her children, grandchildren
and all her “other kids” called
her mom.
Her family
meant ev-
erything to
her.
She was
a
home-
maker who
enjoyed
cooking, playing cards and dice.
One of her favorite hobbies was
crocheting.
Survivors include her partner
George Eugene
Davis
1950-2016
George Eugene Davis was
born on August 20, 1950 in To-
ledo, Washington. He passed
away suddenly on September
16, 2016 and has left a hole
in the hearts of all those who
knew him.
George was a self-taught
builder, welder, electrician, me-
chanic, and pipefi tter. George
built three homes for his family,
along with a giant play structure and a homemade swimming pool,
which provided hours of entertainment for the entire family.
George was a family man and met the love of his life, Neila Davis,
when he was just 16 years old. Th ey married when both were 18 and
have fi ve children. George had always loved Alaska and fi nally con-
vinced Neila to make the move to Ketchikan aft er getting hired as a
millwright at Ketchikan Pulp Mill in 1990.
George had a huge personality and was a born storyteller. He con-
stantly kept us all laughing and entertained. He also had a love of his-
tory, politics, and economics, but his favorite thing in the world was to
take his grandkids out fi shing.
George was preceded in death by his father, George Gilbert Davis;
his mother, Mary Jane Davis; sisters, Sally Allphin and Lucille Tadlock;
brother, Bill Davis; and his beloved Russian weiner dog, Stella.
George leaves behind his loving wife, Neila Davis; brothers, Gary
Miller, Delbert Davis, and John Davis; sister, Debbie Davis; daughters,
Gerri Davis, Frankie Urquhart, and Chancey Davis; daughters-in-law
Stephanie Davis and Katlyn Brooks; sons, Wade Davis and Andy Davis;
son-in-law, Bill Urquhart; grandchildren, Atreyu Davis, Liam Urqu-
hart, Neila Urquhart, Torran Urquhart, Kinsey Urquhart, Brooke Da-
vis, and Adam Davis. George also leaves behind many brothers-in-law,
sisters-in -law, nephews, nieces, and other relatives who were very dear
to him, including his brother-in-law, Lance Davis, whom he fondly re-
ferred to as his “oldest son.”
George had a quick wit, an incredible sense of humor, and a very
large heart. He was loved by many and has left a legacy of love, fam-
ily, and great stories. In lieu of fl owers, he would ask that you vote for
Trump.

Bruce Eugene Harpine, 60,
of Cottage Grove passed away
Oct. 18, 2016.
He was born Sept. 5, 1956
in Great Falls, Mont. to Harry
E. and Juanita R. (Stauffer)
Harpine.
Bruce served in the U.S. Navy
during Viet-
nam as a
hull
tech
on the USS
Mars. He
worked as
a CAD de-
signer
in
the industry
of engineer-
ing.
Bruce married Sherrie Klemz
in 1976. He then married Dawn
L. Pilaczynski on Aug. 29, 2003
in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho.
Bruce is survived by his wife,
Dawn Harpine, of Cottage
Grove; son Benjamin Harpine
of Eugene, daughter Bridgette
Trochez and husband Aldo of
Lowell; son Levi Harpine and
wife Cheryl of Great Falls, MT;
stepdaughter Cassandra Braatz
of Seattle, Wash; sister Mae
Tourillott of Klamath Falls,
Ore; sister Delnita Davis of
Great Falls, MT; sister Pat Klotz
of Great Falls, sister Luanne
Baxter of Superior, MT; brother
Verland Harpine and wife Diane
of Polson, MT; brother Royal
Harpine and wife Sue of Great
Falls and 13 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was
held Monday, Oct. 24 at Smith-
Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in
Cottage Grove, OR.
Iris Lela Degerstrom
1916-2016
Iris Lela Degerstrom, 100,
of Cottage Grove died Oct. 15,
2016.
She was born June 7, 1916 in
Deer Creek,
Minn.
to
Percy W.
and Fern
E m m a
(Kent) Be-
mis.
On April
15, 1936
in Askov,
Minn., she and Ernest Deger-
strom were married.
She started working at a
very young age helping other
families. She was an amazing
homemaker, canning and sew-
ing clothes for the family and
making it through the tough
winters in Minnesota. Her fi rst
interest was her church. She
enjoyed being part of a quilt-
ing group at the church, sending
quilts wherever needed. She
loved artwork, and enjoyed oil
painting. She was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church in Cot-
tage Grove.
Iris is survived by her son,
Theodore (Bonnie) Degerstrom
of Cottage Grove and two sis-
ters, Bernadine Woodiwiss and
Dorothy Scheffelmaier, both of
Ellensburg, Wash. She was a
grandmother, great-grandmoth-
er and great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by
her husband.
A memorial service will be
held at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Cottage Grove on Saturday,
Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. Arrangements
under the care of Smith-Lund-
Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage
Grove.
Ray Fred Annett
1930-2016
Ray Fred Annett, 86, of Cre-
swell, Oregon died Oct. 13,
2016.
He was born Feb. 1, 1930 in
Finchford, Iowa to Fred G. and
Mildred P. (Heideman) Annett.
He served in the U.S. Army.
On April
4,
1958
in Eldora,
Iowa,
he
and Carol
Shannon
were mar-
ried.
Ray drove
log
truck
for
Wey-
erhaeuser, retiring in October
1992. He was “King of the
Road.”
He loved fi shing, hunting,
camping, singing, riding motor-
cycles, and watching sports. He
liked horse tradin’ (not horses).
He was a Ham radio operator,
and loved being on the CB.
Survivors include his wife of
57 years, Carol; six sons, Dan-
iel (Gail) Annett of La Center,
Wash., David (Jane) Annett of
Lomita, Calif., Samuel (Ger)
Annett of Kalama, Wash., Jo-
seph (Tom Colvin) Annett of
Kalama, Wash., James (Sha-
ron) Annett of Lorane, Ore.,
and John (Joanne) Annett of
Creswell, Ore., two daughters,
Dawn Jarvis of Cottage Grove
and Mona Hulsey of Eugene, a
brother, Fred Annett of Idaho, a
sister, Lavonne Bren of Wash-
ington, 13 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death
by a son, Mark Annett, son-in-
law, Ed Jarvis, and son-in-law,
Wayne Hulsey.
A memorial will be held at
12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 29,
2016 at the Lorane Grange. In-
urnment will be in the Lorane
IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements
under the care of Smith-Lund-
Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage
Grove.
Raymond Peter Bray
1925-2016

of Cottage
Grove died
on Oct. 15,
2016
of
cancer.
Bud was born Dec. 26, 1925
in Staples, Minn. to Raymond
C. and Mary (Magnon) Bray.
He graduated from high school
in Dilworth, Minn. and served
with the US Navy Air Corps
during WWII as an aviation
mechanic and fl ight crew chief.
He fought in battle in the South
Atlantic.
He married Dorothy Peterson
on Oct. 31, 1948 in Moorhead,
Minn. She died in 1992, and a
few years later he married Lor-
raine Johnson on July 24, 1996
in Rapid City, S.D.
Ray was an offi ce manager
for Savings & Loans Lenders.
His primary career was in sales
of industrial chemicals.
Bud enjoyed games and cards
(Bridge), dancing, concerts,
travel, and reading. He liked to
follow sports teams, especially
football. He was famous for
his margarita hour, and he had
a sweet tooth, especially for
chocolate. His favorite thing
was spending time with his fam-
ily, especially his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He
was a member of the Knights of
Columbus and Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife,
Lorraine of Cottage Grove, three
sons, Patrick (Mary) Bray of
Milbank, S.D., Steven Bray of
Dassel, Minn. and John Bray of
Longmont, Colo., three daugh-
ters, Roberta (Steve) Webber
of Portland, Ore., Carol (Rick)
Embertson of Roseburg, Ore.
and Gail (Jim) Weisgerber of
Portland, Ore., two sisters, Bev-
erly (George) Sutton of Tucson,
Arizona and Eloda (Bill) Ervin
of Ann Arbor, Mich., a brother,
Richard Bray of Mechanicsville,
Penn., 12 grandchildren and fi ve
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his fi rst spouse, Dorothy Bray,
and daughter, Katherine Bray.
A memorial was held Oct. 21
at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral
Chapel in Cottage Grove. Buri-
al will be in St. Joseph Catholic
Cemetery in Moorhead, Minn.
