HOMECOMING

struggling to match their of-
fensive production in the fi rst
half, but on a third-and-long
situation, Sentman connected
with Kory Parent for a 39-yard
catch and run, though a late pen-
alty came in just before the end
of the play, and the Lions net-
ted 29 yards. Sentman put the
game away with another rush-
ing touchdown.
The senior completed 14 of
28 passes for 330 yards and one
touchdown to Jacob Woods, and
he also rushed for three touch-
downs. Sentman hit six differ-
ent receivers, his favorite tar-
get being Woods, who caught
fi ve passes for 155 yards. Par-
ent caught three passes for 85
yards.
“By looking at the stats, you
would think he (Sentman) had
an incredible game,” Head
Coach Gary Roberts said, “But
he was fairly inconsistent.” Cot-
tage Grove tends to run a read
option, and Roberts said there
were times Sentman made the
wrong read and should have
handed the ball off instead of
keeping it, but at other times he
made very smart choices where
the statistics showed.
Sentman threw a late pick-six
while trying to throw a screen
pass, shortening Sisters’ defi cit
to 34-22, but by then it was al-
ready too late, and a bad onside
kick by the Outlaws went out of
bounds to seal Sisters’ fate.
The Lions totaled 384 yards
on offense, 330 of which were
through the air. The run game
only totaled 54 yards on 27 car-
ries, and Roberts said that was
concerning.
“It’s a combination of playing
better teams and our offensive
line needing to improve,” he
said. Roberts added that Sisters’
defense was much like Scap-
poose in that the team’s defen-
sive front is very strong, making
the run game very diffi cult for
opponents.
The win has brought Cottage
Grove into the top 10 of the
OSAA state rankings. The Lions
currently sit in eighth place, four
spots ahead of Elmira, which
also holds a 5-0 record. Cottage
Grove should breeze through its
next two games against a 2-2
Junction City team and a strug-
gling 0-5 Sutherlin team. The
last game of the season against
Elmira will most likely be the
game that decides the Sky-Em
champion.
Though the team is happy
with the progress they’re mak-
ing, the Lions aren’t celebrating
yet.
“We haven’t earned a playoff
spot yet; we haven’t earned a
league title, so there’s nothing
really to pat ourselves on the
back for at this point,” Roberts
added.

tion City on Friday to face the
Tigers at 7 p.m.
