Immunizations
Back To School 2016-2017
By law, shots are required for children in attendance at public and private schools,
preschools, childcare facilities, and HeadStart programs. Oregon’s Compulsory School
Immunization Law (ORS.267) requires that every child in any Oregon school must be fully
immunized against certain contagious diseases, or provide statements to the effect that the
child is excused from immunization on religious or medical grounds. The school must be
shown proof of immunizations prior to school enrollment. Transfer students will have a 30-
day grace period to have their records forwarded.
Vaccines protecting against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella,
Hepatitis B and varicella or history of chicken pox disease are required for all students. For
children under 5 years of age, shots against Haemophilus infl uenzae type b (Hib) are also
required.
For additional information about immunizations and any changes in requirements
contact Lane County Public Health Services at 541-682-4041, or the school where your
child will be enrolled.
Parents should consult their health care provider for additional information.
