Car show donation to aid Creswell's
Family Relief Nursery classroom
T
he Family Relief Nursery
recently announced that it
has received a $1275 donation
from the third annual Cars and
Stripes Benefi t Car Show, a Cre-
swell-based organization that
aims to support local charities
and is a highlight of Creswell’s
legendary July 4 festivities.
Nursery offi cials say the funds
will be used to support the new
therapeutic classrooms in Cre-
swell. For over 20 years, the
Nursery has offered classes in
both Cottage Grove and Drain,
and it serves local families who
require formalized support to
alleviate stressors and increase
quality parenting interactions
and child welfare. The Creswell
Classroom, led by two trained
interventionists, will work to of-
fer 17 children a safe and sup-
portive environment to develop
social and emotional skills. Lo-
cal families will also be able to
receive referrals to local agen-
cies and respite care through the
Nursery’s home-based program,
which includes home visits, cri-
sis intervention and parent edu-
cation.

DFPA: Extreme
fi re danger
ber, the Oregon Department of
Transportation says travelers on
U.S. 20 should expect detours
on the west and east sides of
Interstate 5 due to construction
road closures just west of Ed-
dyville (west) and 26 miles east
of Sweet Home at the Sheep
Creek Bridge (east). Many trav-
elers take this route as a scenic
trip across Oregon.
According to ODOT, the U.S
20 Sheep Creek Bridge closure
will last through the end of Sep-
tember. The highway is fully
closed from milepost 54 to 56.9.
The bridge is out. There is no
local detour.
Eastbound travelers are asked
to take OR 20 from Lebanon to
OR 226 to OR 22, or OR 126
from Springfi eld, while west-
bound travelers should take OR
22 to OR 226, or OR 126 from
Santiam Junction.
For more information, includ-
ing a detour map and videos on
the project, go to

The Douglas Forest Protective
Association is increasing the
fi re danger level to “extreme”
on all 1.6 million acres of pri-
vate, county, state and BLM
lands protected by DFPA, effec-
tive immediately. The increase
in fi re danger is due to a combi-
nation of hot and dry conditions
and forest fuels that are prime to
burn.
Under DFPA’s Public Use
Fire Restrictions, the mowing of
dead or dry grass, non-industrial
chainsaw use and the cutting,
grinding or welding of metal
for non-industrial purposes is
prohibited during extreme fi re
danger.
A complete list of public or
industrial fi re restrictions is
available at www.dfpa.net, or
those interested can call DFPA’s
24 hour information line at 541-
672-0379.
