When Buster Came to Town

‘Twas som ething like a gala day-
The green o’trees was in full sway;
‘Twas on a m orning back in J une,
And all the birds were in full tune,
When Buster cam e to town.
We’re not afraid that he’ll retort,
Because we call him “com m on sort;”
The which, we m ean, he doesn’t
think
That he’s the only living gink,
When Buster com es to town.
We country folks are slow to fall,
For those who seldom ever call;
And so it’s hardly a surprise,
Because we slowly m ade a rise,
When Buster cam e to town.
We’ll m iss im when he’s gone again,
From this old spot of sun and rain;
But he’ll rem em ber us, you bet,
Because he has opinion set,
When Buster cam e to town.
But, sure as fate, we know him now,
A clever sport – a perfect “Wow”;
For he sure is som e likely lad,
No m atter in what duds he’s clad,
When Buster com es to town.

That we are square and fell for him ,
Nor never criticize a whim ;
And did our best to sm ooth his way,
From scene to scene of his m ovie
play,
When Buster cam e to town.
He’s prom ised that he’ll com e again,
When Old Sol laughs
through sm oke and rain;
And we will shake his baseball m itt,
And indicate that he’s a hit,
When Buster com es to town.
So then we’ll reckon tim e from now,
Until with silvered heads we bow;
And base our facts upon “the tim e”
We heard the engine whistle chim e
When Buster cam e to town.
