COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL August 3, 2016 Proposed cell tower south of CG to receive public hearing Dispute between neighbors draws police presence A spokesperson with the Lane County Sheriff’s Offi ce said a dispute over a garden tool may have led to an exchange of gunshots between neighbors on Brice Creek road southeast of Cottage Grove last week. Public Information Offi ce Carrie Carver said that a scene that had once drawn sever- al vehicles and personnel with the Sheriff’s Offi ce and Oregon State Police was cleared by about 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 after po- lice responded to a call involving shots fi red in the area at about 9 that morning. Police were busy interviewing many in- dividuals, and one man had been detained early this afternoon, Carver said, though she added that no one had as yet been arrested. “Reportedly there was gunfi re exchanged, but we haven’t been able yet to determine which party fi red fi rst or whether both of them fi red shots at all,” Carver said. The man who was detained at the resi- dence was cooperating with the ongoing investigation, Carver indicated. She said the County’s Special Response Team was called to the area. A response from Oregon State Police was also initially requested, though OSP was called off soon after. “We brought armor right away; it’s the case when there’s anything called in that involves shots fi red,” she said. The Eugene Register-Guard reported that Carver said the remoteness of the area and “law offi cials’ history with both parties” led to the heavy police response, adding that the owner of the home in question, David Pressley, faced charges in 2006 including coercion, second- degree kidnapping, fi rst-degree robbery, un- lawful use of a weapon, pointing a weapon at another and being a felon in possession of a weapon. The Cot- tage Grove Angela Ward Police Department’s activities log indicates that 33-year old Angela Ward was arrested in Clackamas County Saturday on a Cottage Grove Municipal Court warrant for failure to ap- pear. Police had been looking for and even utilized CGPD’s Face- book page to enlist the public’s help in locating Ward, who they said purchased alcohol for sev- eral teens in advance of a May 20 party that attracted police attention after South Lane Fire and Rescue received a report of a 14-year old female foaming at the mouth. Several of the teens were extremely intoxicated, po- lice said — a 15-year old was reportedly found with a blood alcohol content of .26 percent, over three times the legal limit for an adult DUI. Police say a second 15-year old was found to have a BAC of .18 percent. City Council cancels its Aug. 22 meeting Woman accused of furnishing alcohol to minors arrested again “ A 3A I think I heard a motion with fi ve seconds!” Mayor Tom Munroe heard an enthusiastic response from the City Council at its Monday, July 25 meeting regarding the pros- pect of holding just one meeting this August. “There is the potential, be- cause there’s nothing on the schedule for Aug. 22, to cancel that meeting, but I need a mo- tion not to meet,” City Manager Richard Meyers stated before several councilors jumped in. Meyers explained that, by law the Council must meet at least once a month, and the lack of business on Aug. 22 apparently made that meeting expendable. Still, Councilor Jeff Gowing’s motion included the provision that, should city business need to be handled that Monday, the meeting would go ahead as it was originally scheduled. Unless that happens, the Council will only meet once, this Monday, Aug. 8, when a review of the ballot language for a prospective three-cent gas tax increase will be among the items on the agenda. The meet- ing starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall’s Council chambers, and the pub- lic is welcome.
