PJ Patterson
1960-2016
July 13, 2016
PJ Patterson of
Cottage Grove died on
July 21, 2016 in a logging
accident. He was 55.
He was born on
December 2, 1960 in
Eugene, OR to John “Pat”
and Colleen (Mohr)
Patterson, Cottage Grove.
He
graduated
from
Cottage Grove High School in 1979. He married Jeanie Eckstine on July
11, 1981 in Cottage Grove. PJ worked for Bohemia Lumber running
the i re crew. He found his love and passion in falling timber, and was
owner/operator of PJ Patterson Cutting Inc. He also worked alongside
his logging partner, Tom Evans. PJ had three things he absolutely loved:
God, family and friends, and elk hunting. He also had a great love for
prayer, and it was said that he ot en “talked God’s ear of .” If you talked
to PJ more than twice, you were considered family, and he treated you
as such. He was a member of Riverside Community Church of God in
Cottage Grove. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanie Patterson;
his parents, Pat and Colleen Patterson; son, Brendan (Laura) Patterson
of North Carolina; son, Jef rey (Nikkie) Patterson of h urston, OR;
brother, Michael (Teresa) Patterson of Astoria; sister, Robin Patterson
of Eugene; sister, Molly Patterson of Cottage Grove; grandchildren,
Chase and Anneva; and more nieces and nephews than you can count.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at
the Cottage Grove High School football i eld. Arrangements in the care
of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Vincent Leon VanHouck
1942 - 2016
Vince VanHouck passed away
peacefully on July 3, 2016 at the age
of 73. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Vince worked in the carpenters union
in the 60’s, at Kennecott Copper in the
70’s, he worked at several saw mills and
in the metal industry at Clark sheet metal,
Schrader Stoves, and Dow Corning Corp
where he took early retirement at age 50. He then started J & V
Home Improvement Inc., a construction business with his son.
He retired from there at the age of 63.
Vince is survived by his wife, Sue and his son John (and
Tracy), his son in law Mike McKenzie, his step son Willie
Buchannan his grandchildren Michael McKenzie (and Kaycee),
Tiffany McKenzie, and David Buchannan, along with 5 great
grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Hope Luther
Church, 1369 B Street Springfi eld, OR on Saturday, July 30,
2016 at 2:00 pm.

1934-2016
Barbara Jane Letsom, 82, of
Cottage Grove passed away July
21, 2016.
She was born March 2, 1934,
in
Litch-
fi eld, Minn.
to Roy T.
and Lydia
(Schultz)
Anderson.
On June
2, 1951 in
Drain, Ore.,
she and Eldon Letsom were
married.
Barbara and Eldon were busi-
ness owners of Drain Cable
and Appliance for 34 years and
retired in 1984. In 1994 they
purchased Safe Lock Storage in
Cottage Grove and Mini Stor-
age in Junction City.
Barbara enjoyed sewing her
children’s clothes as they grew
up, gardening vegetables and
canning, cooking and trying
new recipes for her family to try
and she loved her Chihuahua.
Barbara is survived by two
daughters, Cynthia (Tony) Mc-
Donald of Junction City, Ore.
and Linda (Mike) Bradley of
Drain, Ore., two sons, Timothy
Letsom of Eugene, Ore. and
Jon Letsom of Reedsport, Ore.,
three sisters, June Dahlhaeuser
of Texas, Joyce Thompson of
California and Mary Lou Gar-
rett of Oregon, Wesley Anderson
of Oregon, eight grandchildren,
12 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by
a brother, Lowell Anderson, and
a sister, Geraldine Neal.
A funeral will be held at 10
a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Cha-
pel with burial following at East
Charles “Bud” Tedford Pryor
1934-2016
Bud passed away with his wife by his
side, July 18, 2016 from cancer. He was
born Oct. 13, 1934 in Iva, S.C. to Joseph L.
Pryor and Minnie Lee (Autrey) Pryor. He
graduated from Greenwood High School
in Greenwood, S.C. He served in the Navy
from 1954-1957. He was an Engine-man
2nd class aboard the USS Tom Green
County, LST 1159 and USS Fort Marion,
LSD22.
In December of 1957, Bud married
Carol Lynn Downer, who passed away in June, 2011. h ey had
two sons: Scott J. Pryor (Pam) of Sacramento, Calif. and Craig
S. Pryor (Melinda) of Cottage Grove, Ore. He served in the Air
Force from 1958 to 1974 where he retired Senior Master Sergeant,
Missile Maintenance Supervisor. While in the military he received
degrees from Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, Calif. and
Park University in Parkville, Mo.
At er retiring from the military, Bud worked at Piper Aircrat
in Santa Maria, Calif. from 1974 to 1979. In 1980 he built their
home in Cottage Grove. In 1985 he became a home builder/
remodeler in the area and retired in 1999.
He loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, Florida and Key West.
On July 3, 2014, Bud married Carol A. Hetherington.
Bud is survived by his wife, Carol, his two sons, Scott and
Craig, granddaughter, Breanna (Rob) DeVerger, two great-
grandsons, Max and Parker, of Quincy, Ill., and granddaughter,
Melissa Hammonds of Springi eld, Ore., a grandson, Brian Scot
Lincoln and great-granddaughter, Ripley, of California, a sister,
Margaret Ann Allbee of Salem, N.H., and two brothers, Bobby Joe
Pryor of Troy, S.C. and James Donald Pryor of Nederland, Texas.
In lieu of l owers, please send donations to Eugene Mission or
Humane Society of Cottage Grove. A celebration of life will take
place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at 71864 London Rd. in Cottage
Grove.

Caitlian Marie Stuner
1999-2016
Caitlian Marie Stuner, 17, of
Cottage Grove died July 16 in
an auto accident.
She was
born in Eu-
gene, Ore.
to Sheenna
and James
(Stuner)
Martindale.
She had
completed
11th grade
at Cottage Grove High School.
Along with being a student,
Caitlian was a hard worker who
cleaned homes with her mom
for Maid in Oregon. She loved
horses, did barrel racing and
helped build a round pen for her
horses. She enjoyed gaming
shows, fi shing, hunting and trap-
ping with her boyfriend, along
with babysitting her younger
brother and sister. She was in
love with her new English Mas-
tiff puppy and her silver lab and
hound. Caitlian loved hiking
and being outdoors. She was
good natured, very big-hearted
with both people and animals,
enjoyed working and getting her
nails done.
She is survived by two broth-
ers, Tyler Stuner of Cottage
Grove and Jacob Stuner of Thur-
ston, a sister, Abigale Stuner of
Cottage Grove, cousins, Jesse
Irvin and Shelby Stuner, both
of Cottage Grove, two uncles,
Jeremy Stuner of Cottage Grove
and Sean Martindale of Eugene,
grandparents, Blane and Wendy
Stuner of Cottage Grove, grand-
mother, Ester Martindale of Eu-
gene, great-grandparents, Dan
and Pat Stuner, great-grand-
mother, Janis Collins of Cot-
tage Grove, her boyfriend, Will
Vann, and many other family
and friends.
A memorial was held Satur-
day, July 23 at Calvary Chapel
in Cottage Grove.
Peggy Joanne Bernucci died at
age 84 on July 10, 2016 in Creswell,
Oregon. She was born in Kansas City,
Missouri on September 9, 1931 to
Joseph and Margaret Fraizer Theis. The
family moved to California when Peg
was 11 years old. Peg married Vincent
Bernucci in Berkeley, California in
1952. They later divorced.
Peg graduated from the University of California, Santa
Barbara in 1952 with a BA in English. She received a Masters
of Library Science from San Jose State College in 1969. She
worked as a librarian at Bret Harte Junior High School in San Jose,
California for 23 years.
Peg enjoyed nature, birding, dry martinis and traveling the
world. She volunteered at a bird refuge on the San Francisco Bay
for many years. She loved leading bird walks along the Bay and
giving classes to school kids on the native birds of California.
Peg is survived by her daughters Suzy Bernucci, Katy
Bernucci Vaughn, Julie Bernucci and Beth Bernucci (Greg Johns);
her granddaughters Ariel Vaughn and Elena Vaughn; brothers Joe
Theis (Jill), Jerry Theis and Jim Theis and numerous nieces and
nephews.
