BOHEMIA NUGGET 2016
The Feud Continues!
Calling all the good people
of Cottage Grove! It's time
to pick your side in the fi fth
annual Slabtown vs Lemati
Feud during the 2016 Bo-
hemia Mining Days Festi-
val, July 14-17. This year's
theme, All that Glitters… is
not Gold! focuses on how
electricity came to Cot-
tage Grove via the Annie
Mine’s steam engineer and
the 1893 Chicago World’s
Fair. Pick a side and join in
the fun! We've got a wide
assortment of contests for
all ages.
Slabtowners were victo-
rious the fi rst year by a
narrow margin. Lematians
came roaring back in 2013
and 2014 to claim the Feud
Rock Trophy. Last year it
was the Slabtowners by
another narrow margin!
If you're a newcomer, this
very old feud between
two factions from Cottage
Grove's earliest days in
the 1890s was rekindled
in a fun new way in 2012.
If you live on the west
side of the Coast Fork of
the Willamette River, you
are a Slabtowner. If you
live on the east side of the
river, you are a Lematian.
If you're playing from out
of the area, we recommend
you pick Slabtown because
it has a much smaller geo-
graphic area and popula-
tion.
During the four days of
BMD, citizens of the two
towns compete in a variety
of free and friendly old-
timey games, such as the
Two Towns Tug o' War, and
the Cherry Pit Spittin' Con-
test. Get your fancy-dancy
costumes ready for The
Feud's Dress-Up day and
compete in Saturday's Cos-
tume Contest. Cold hard
cash is awarded to the best
outrageous and fi ctitious
story that goes with each
costume in three categories:
men, women and kids.
Speaking of cash... We
highly encourage everyone
to drop some in the antique
election boxes in Bohemia
City Hall to earn more
points for your favorite
town.
The top point earners from
each town at the end of
Sunday will be declared the
new mayor and will proud-
ly preside over their respec-
tive town until the next feud
begins.
So round up your family,
friends and neighbors, and
heck bring 'em in from
other towns to play on your
town's side. Let's get a bit
of bragging going back and
forth and be revved up and
ready to do some serious
feuding in Coiner Park (aka
Bohemia City).
Participa-
tion from
BMD's
young
visitors is
essential
to the
success
of the
Slabtown
Vs. Lemati
Feud
Contest.
