hear the buzz of vintage aircraft
fl ying around town during BMD.
The Oregon Aviation Historical
Society hosts the Swift Fly-In
this weekend and invites festi-
val-goers to visit its newly re-
modeled museum at the Cottage
Grove Airport.
On Saturday morning, 10-15
Swift pilots begin the day with
an aerial tour and will fl y over
the Grand Miners Parade about
10:15 for the enjoyment of pa-
rade watchers.
The Globe Swift was one of the
fi rst of the new planes to appear
in 1946 after WWII. A group
of young engineers in Denton,
Texas applied their fi ghter plane
experience to design a small
modern all aluminum airplane
with retractable landing gear
and a hydraulic system. Of the
1100 Swifts produced from
1946-51, about 500 are still fl y-
