BOHEMIA NUGGET 2016
Welcome to the 57th annual
Bohemia Mining Days Festival!
We’re all just as pleased as can be to welcome you to the
57th annual Bohemia Mining Days! There are plenty of new
things to see and do this year, along with a bunch of old
favorites from years gone by. Pick a side, join the feud and
have fun!
From Mayor Tom Munroe:
Bohemia City Marshal Welcomes You!
A
s Marshal of Bohemia City, I'd like to welcome
you to our fair city and encourage you to enjoy
all it has to offer during your Bohemia Mining Days
experience.
I want to assure our good citizens – and our visitors
– my trusty deputies and I will remain vigilant and en-
force all the laws of our fair city. For those scofflaws
who choose to break one of ‘em, they will receive a ci-
tation, with the fine payable immediately at Bohemia
City Hall! If they don’t pay, they’ll be locked up in the
Bohemia City Jail.
It’s all in good fun, so come on down to Bohemia City
and bring the whole family for four days of fun!
Gary Williams, Bohemia City Marshal
About the Bohemia Nugget
The Bohemia Nugget was originally
a Friday weekly published in Cottage
Grove from 1889 to 1907, when it was
consolidated with the Cottage Grove
Leader. After years of competing, The
Leader was fi nally bought out by its
nemesis, the Cottage Grove Sentinel, in
1918. We celebrate our colorful heri-
tage by publishing this annual com-
memorative section that highlights
Cottage Grove’s history and serves as
an information guide for the Bohemia
Mining Days Festival. Stories and pho-
tos refl ect the life and times of a bygone
era as well as current events surround-
ing Bohemia Mining Days.
The Cottage Grove City Council, city staff, and local
citizens of our great city welcome you to the Bohemia
Mining Days celebration.
This year is the 57th anniversary of the four-day
festival that is fun for the whole family! The 2016
theme highlights the unique history of electricity in
Cottage Grove and how it has impacted and improved
our town. I invite you to head up to the 52st Annual
Miners' Breakfast on the Mountain on Sunday from 6
a.m. to 1 p.m. Pay close attention to the steep, narrow
gravel roads and consider how challenging it was in
the 1800s for miners to get the supplies they needed
and to get their gold into town. I urge you to attend
both events and enjoy our great city as well as the
many local historic homes and covered bridges you
may not fi nd anywhere else.
If you need more local information, please visit the
Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center in the Cottage
Grove Community Center on Gibbs Avenue. When
the Visitor Center is closed, local information is also
available in the lobby of the Village Green Resort and
Gardens on Row River Road.
