Ruby Susanna Roberts, 84, of
Cottage Grove passed away July
8, 2016.
She was born June 7, 1932
in
Sum-
merfield,
Kansas
to Arthur
and Mabel
(Brouhard)
Volle.
She graduated in 1950 from
Beattie Kansas High School.
On April 16, 1952 in Swiss
Home, Oregon, she and Charles
Raymond Roberts were mar-
ried.
Ruby enjoyed garage sales,
square dancing, cards and
games, card making, canning
and food preservation, garden-
ing and couponing. She was a
Jehovah’s Witness.
Survivors include her chil-
dren, Sharon Jensen of Cottage
Grove, Scott Roberts of Salem,
Ore., Calvin Roberts of Kearney,
Nebr., Lester Roberts of Cottage
Grove and Brian Roberts of Eu-
gene, 22 grandchildren and 32
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husband and all eight of her
siblings.
A memorial service will be
held Saturday, July 16 at 4 p.m.
at the Kingdom Hall of Jeho-
vah’s Witnesses, 78019 S. Sixth
St. in Cottage Grove. Private in-
urnment will take place at Silk
Creek Cemetery. Arrangements
under the care of Smith-Lund-
Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage

voted to his family and took
pride in his work. Cory loved
the outdoors and Duck football.
He was an athlete in school and
also loved to ride. He loved all
sports and was a great swimmer.
Cory was a very social person
who loved his friends.
He is survived by his mother
and father, Andrew and Victoria
Tocher of Cottage Grove, part-
ner of 10 ½ years, Tiffany Tul-
lar of Wellsville, N.Y., two sons,
Asher Thomas and Uriah An-
drew Tocher, both of Wellsville,
N.Y., and two brothers, Bryson
Andrew Tocher of Rogue River,
Ore. and Troy Anthony Tocher
of Lebanon, Ore.
Services were held on July 8
at the Calvary Chapel in Cottage
Grove. Arrangements under the
care of Smith-Lund-Mills Fu-
neral Chapel, Cottage Grove.

Jerry Freeman Bassett, 84, of
Springfi eld, Ore. passed away
June 15, 2016.
He was born Feb. 7, 1932,
in Springfi eld, Mo. to Earl and
Zada (Packer) Bassett.
In 1953,
he married
Marjorie
Lou Bell in
Lubbock,
Texas.

the age of fi ve, when he moved
with his parents to southern
California. He lived in the San
Bernardino and San Diego ar-
eas, where he graduated from
high school, attended college in
Abilene, Texas and received his

was a gospel preacher working
with local Churches of Christ in
California and Oregon for more
than 50 years. He served as an
Elder with the Church of Christ
on Coburg Road in Eugene. He
enjoyed hunting, fi shing, back-
packing and camping. He was
also interested in baseball,
football and basketball, both
collegiate and professional
teams. He was a member of the
Emerald Empire Gun Club and
the National Rifl e Association.
He is survived by his son,
Darrell Freeman Bassett; son,
Gregory James Bassett; daugh-
ter, Leanna Cymbala; brother,
Don Bassett; fi ve grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held
Saturday, July 9, at the Coburg
Road Church of Christ, 1005

Chester, 88 of Cottage
Grove, Oregon passed
away July 5, 2016. He
was born October 26,
1927, in Seneca, SD to
Asa and Katherine (Otto)
Chester. Raymond gradu-
ated from Sutherlin High
School in 1945 and began
working in the logging
industry. He followed is
father-in-law in the min-
ing industry from Oregon to Nevada. He was a postman in
Carson City, NV for several years where he walked 17 miles
a day on his route. Something Raymond was very proud of
as he was born with a club foot and told he would not be able
to do such things. In 1960 he and his father-in-law bought the
Minden Blacksmith Shop in Minden, NV. He continued to op-
erate the blacksmith shop under the name Douglas Iron Works
until 1991, when he retired. Raymond married Elaine Ingersoll
on June 17, 1950 in Sutherlin, OR. He was preceded in death
by his parents, 3 daughters Debbie, Diane and Cathy as well as
his wife of 62 years, Elaine and his three sisters. Raymond is
survived by son-in-law Larry Berg, granddaughter Christalee
Chapman, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Haleigh
Williams and Riley Wise, two nephews and a niece. A memo-
rial will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Smith-
Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, 123 S. 7 th St., Cottage Grove, OR
97424. Arrangements by Smith-Lu nd-Mills Funeral Chapel.
