2C COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL June 15, 2016 K SUPPORTING Continued from page 1C “Play is as valuable for young thinkers as structured learning,” she said. Lorenzen said Oak Park’s half-day schedule includes “all the things students would have” in a public-school setting, in- cluding math, reading and sci- ence instruction. “Because our curriculum is concentrated in the morning, we can easily meet the need to have students fully ready,” she said. “With smaller classes, we’re able to operate more effi ciently and give students more atten- tion.” Lorenzen added that the school also offers “spiritual training” for its students if parents are interested. The school caters to families who seek “more tradi- tional values” in their children’s education, she said. It’s a model that has been in place at Oak Park since the 1970s, and the school expects between 50 and 60 students again next year. Three and a half hours of kindergarten in- struction costs $175 per month, and the school is seeking eight kindergarteners to fi ll out its rolls. Those interested in learn- ing more can contact the school at 541-942-0600 or Lorenzen at 541-942-2323.
