Bulldogs) saw a Cottage
Grove season high batting aver-
age of .429. But Sutherlin is the
weakest team in the Sky-Em,
sitting at 1-8 in league play.
Cottage Grove will still see
much tougher defenses from
Sweet Home and Elmira, and
the team’s hitting game may
struggle more.
On the season, Cottage Grove
is at a .274 total, below Elmira’s
.300. Cottage Grove may still
have work to do, but with the
help of Payton Presley at bat,
and Ollivant and Hunter Harris
on the mound, the Lions can still
pull off several much-needed
wins and take the Sky-Em title.

There's a sophomore out of
North Douglas High School
who has managed to grab the
attention of Lane County prep-
sports reporters.
Carson Burris of the North
Douglas High School baseball
team is giving pitchers around
his district a bit of a chill.
Last Tuesday, the North
Douglas Warriors went down
2-1 in the top of the seventh in-
ning when their opponent, the
Monroe Dragons, hit a double
and brought in a run. At the bot-
tom of the seventh, Burris hit
a grand slam off of a 2-2 pitch
with two outs. The hit ended the
game and gave North Douglas
the win.
Now at 12-4 overall and 6-3
in league play, the warriors cur-
rently sit at third place in their
Skyline League and are still
hopeful for a district title.

On the other end of the throw-

Hunter Hall was close behind in
sixth place.
For the girls, throwing wasn’t
as strong outside of the javelin.
Juniors Melissa Powers and
Kaitlyn Brook fi nished in third

tances of 97 feet, 10 inches and
95 feet, three inches. But fresh-

inches.
Cottage Grove will host its
invitational this Friday where
16 teams will be in attendance.
Among these teams will be
Henley, the team that holds a
few hurdlers that have broken
15 seconds. But Knutson is
confi dent in Tharpe’s ability to
compete.
“It’s going to be a really good
race,” he said.
