Softball
picks up its
fi rst victory
It has not been the best season for
Cottage Grove softball to say the least,
but last Tuesday the Lions were able
to steal their fi rst win at Sisters. Cot-
tage Grove defeated the Outlaws 12-10.
The win put a halt to a 12-game losing
streak that started the fi rst game of the
season against North Bend. Head Coach
Cheryl Frieze says the team’s struggles
come from an overall young and inexpe-
rienced squad.
So far, the Lions have been outscored
by their opponents 259-48 and are hav-
ing a diffi cult time fi nding a consistent
pitcher. But with so many devastating
blowouts, including a 24-12 loss to Sis-
ters the week before, a 12-10 victory is
an immensely positive turn around. The
biggest loss of the season was a 27-0 rout
by Pleasant Hill. To come from losses
such as that to a 12-10 victory is no
stroke of luck. Any win this season will
testify to the tenacity of this struggling
softball team and will display the drastic
improvements the team has made.
