COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL March 9, 2016 3B PLAYOFFS CONTINUED FROM PG 1B Male Half Marathon results The Lions would have had less than two seconds in the game had they done so, and it would’ve been a much tougher situation. While Parent’s game-winner stole the spotlight of the game at the very end, it’s important to note the largest contribution, which came from Sentman. When the Bulldog’s defense focused on stunting Parent, Sentman was unleashed and racked up 28 total points for the Lions, keeping them in the game all night. The junior sunk a total of four three-point shots, went 10-for-22 on overall fi eld goals and shot four-for-six on free throws. Sentman led his team, but he wasn’t left alone. Parent and senior Chance Hopkins both scored 16 points with eight re- bounds. One of the biggest keys to the Lions’ success this season is their ability to produce mul- tiple high-scorers. For Baker, Logan Sand led the team with 29 points, more than Sentman, but the next highest scorer on the Bulldogs roster scored 11 points, one example of many this season. The Lions are now only two wins away from an appearance at the state fi nals. Cottage Grove will drive to Hillsboro on Thurs- day to take on Gladstone at Lib- erty High School. Should they win, they will play a semifi nal game the day after (March 11) and the fi nals will take place on March 12. Photo by Gary Ordway Kory Parent drives for the game-winning layup. Curtis Towns Becomes House Driver For Superior Race Cars; Looks To Repeat As CGS Modifi ed Champ BY BEN DEATHERAGE For the Sentinel Cottage Grove, Oregon- 2015 was a remarkable year for Cur- tis Towns. The Cottage Grove, Oregon native became the fi rst driver, in the modern era, of Cottage Grove Speedway to win two championships in the same season. He obtained crowns in both the IMCA Modifi eds as well as the Late Models. Towns, driving the Superior Race Cars/ Superior Fuel Cells/West End Performance/BSB Manufactur- ing/IBEW Local 280 #24 entry, will look to grab another CGS Modifi ed title this year. “I’m mainly going to fo- cus on the Modifi ed this year,” said Towns, “I fi lled in for Paul (Culp) last year because of his back. He said he’s going to run his car some but I might fi ll in every now and then if he’s un- able to drive.” Towns sold his championship car over the offseason. He will be making the switch to Supe- rior Race Cars which is brand new chassis make created by Paul Culp. Towns will be the house driver for Culp as he will be the fi rst driver to have a crack behind the wheel of a Superior car. “I sold my car from last year to Erik Ingebretson and Paul is in the middle of putting this new car together. It should be done by the time racing season rolls along. Both him and I are really excited to see how this new car is going to work.” As far as racing is concerned the main focus will be at Cottage Grove Speedway. However, the team does plan to hit some of the bigger shows in the Pacifi c Northwest when the schedule allows. His fi rst race will be on Saturday April 9th at Cottage Grove Speedway. “Paul really wants to get the Superior Race Car name out there so we plan on traveling a little bit this year when we can. I know the race out of town will be the big ones around here.” M 10-18 1 21 Fechtel, Tyler 18 2 154 Sherrod, April 18 M 19-29 1 92 Goetz, Dino 28 2 99 Hesselgesser, Thomas 24 3 49 Colburn, Jordan 20 4 78 Boos, Dustin 29 5 11 Hoffman, Ricky 26 M 30-39 1 81 Buss, Matthew 36 2 136 James-Long, Justin 37 3 149 Rauch, Scott 30 4 83 Cochran, Sam 34 5 73 Asfahl, Kyle 33 6 120 Sankey, Ryan 35 7 150 Altemus, Matt 34 8 61 Stinnett, Jon 36 9 127 Steele, Trevor 30 10 141 Kretschmann, Chad 39 11 145 Keppler, Ben 36 12 37 Yoder, Philip 39 13 108 Madaus, Andrew 33 14 15 Anderson, Jarod 37 15 72 Risdal, Eric 38 16 79 Briley, James 38 M 40-49 1 19 Paskewich, TJ 42 2 98 Henry, Kelly 40 3 24 Lehrbach, Jeff 46 4 125 Solo, Han 45 5 135 Winetrout, Craig 49 6 134 Wilson, Greg 47 7 46 Ruckwardt, Mark 49 8 155 Landry, Jeff 42 9 138 Hahn, Sean 47 10 70 Crawford, Michael 48 11 124 Smith, Scott 42 12 35 Rice, Jason 44 M 50-59 1 1 Bennett, Alan 53 2 107 Leighton, Loren 59 3 114 Nelson, Andy 53 4 113 Montgomery, William 56 5 100 Hesselgesser, Todd 53 6 5 Markus, James 56 7 60 Dunn, Stephen 52 8 122 Schneider, Bob 53 9 30 Sanchez, Steve 55 10 128 Strauss, Chuck 57 11 58 Stromme, Jerry 54 12 84 Cornett, George 50 13 137 Manning, Bill 52 14 147 McGoey, Patrick 58 15 38 Lowell, Greig 55 16 27 Coe, Scott 59 17 75 Blackwood, John 59 M 60-69 1 112 Modee, Steven 65 2 126 Spady, Joe 66 3 106 LaLonde, Ed 63 4 47 Benson, Neal 68 5 119 Rybicka, Roger 68 M 10-18 M M 10-18 M Fall Creek Cottage Grove 01:47:29.98 03:07:18.44 M 19-29 M M 19-29 M M 19-29 M M 19-29 M M 19-29 M BEND Eugene Springfi eld ALBANY Roseburg 01:10:35.22 01:18:13.98 01:29:57.85 01:35:02.85 01:37:49.04 M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M M 30-39 M Springfi eld Eugene Springfi eld Eugene CORVALLIS Springfi eld Oakridge Cottage Grove Eugene Eugene Cottage Grove Cottage Grove Glide Springfi eld Creswell Salem 01:22:10.32 01:23:32.23 01:25:31.88 01:30:36.59 01:31:32.63 01:32:22.46 01:34:08.43 01:41:07.86 01:41:31.85 01:41:44.33 01:47:01.02 01:47:23.12 01:48:33.20 01:58:27.48 02:02:42.03 02:50:03.22 M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M M 40-49 M Bend Harrisburg Roseburg West Linn Eugene OR Eugene OR Eugene OR Klamath Falls Springfi eld Roseburg Harrisburg Springfi eld 01:27:26.79 01:36:19.47 01:36:32.58 01:36:38.19 01:38:07.08 01:41:58.02 01:44:53.77 01:57:21.90 02:02:48.58 02:04:29.81 02:12:29.78 02:18:06.39 M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M M 50-59 M Creswell Springfi eld Eugene Eugene Selah (WA) Cottage Grove Springfi eld Cottage Grove Cottage Grove Salem Eugene Portland Eugene Cottage Grove Pleasant Hill Portland Roseburg 01:36:38.06 01:43:28.04 01:46:49.02 01:47:18.95 01:49:54.20 01:52:26.34 01:52:58.62 01:53:18.71 01:54:14.27 01:55:00.48 01:56:59.58 01:57:32.92 02:01:47.12 02:05:26.80 02:16:05.44 02:16:50.10 02:20:26.88 M 60-69 M M 60-69 M M 60-69 M M 60-69 M M 60-69 M Eugene 02:00:43.46 Cottage Grove 02:01:20.97 Vancouver (WA) 02:02:55.74 Eugene 02:06:27.93 Fort Collins (CO) 02:25:37.86 The businesses on this page are: Cottage Grove Lions SUPER FANS They proudly support our local athletes and students Please show your appreciation by patronizing their businesses.
