len did lose, however, to Braw-
ley Lamar, being pinned in the
fi rst round.
Alan Bordeaux lost to Isaiah
Ross of Brookings-Harbor in
the semifi nal match in the 170-
weight class but won his third
place match over Eugene Griffi n
(Illinois Valley), pinning him in
the third period. Andrew made it
to the fi rst place match but lost
to Josh Hammers of Mazama in
the 182-weight class.
Lamb fell just short of win-
ning the fi rst-place match until
he was injured. First place in the
285-weight class then went to
Tyler Burris of Henley.
Although there were many
wins at the invitational, the Li-
ons were consistently short of
getting a fi rst-place win.
But if there’s one thing we’ve
seen from the Lions’ wrestling
team this year (and last) is that
there is potential and ability in
the squad to succeed at the state
fi nals.
Parent didn’t seem to be
healthier with 10 points in 31
minutes. He was one-for-nine
on fi eld goals and 80 percent
from the free-throw line (eight-
for-10). Sentman led the team in
scoring again but was unable to
put up the same numbers as last
game with 13 points and four
rebounds. Hopkins was back to
his usual self, with nine points
and 11 rebounds (the second
most out of both teams).
Overall, however, the Lions
were out-rebounded 30-22.
They were also held to a low
of 31 percent accuracy from
the fi eld (11-for-35), although
Elmira wasn’t shooting much
better at 38 percent.
The second loss dropped the
Lions down only one spot in
the rankings to No. six. Junc-
tion City is just behind Cottage
Grove at seven.
This week, Cottage Grove
will host Sisters and the Ti-
gers and will hopefully have a
healthy team by game time.

steals on the game, an impres-
sive performance for the young-
est player on the roster.
Elmira had previously beaten
the Lions this season 51-38, the
second loss of what would be a
fi ve-game losing streak. But a
second wind seems to have hit
the girls’ team, especially after
dominating Sweet Home 52-
15. Elmira leads the Sky-Em
league, sitting at No. 21 in the
rankings. Cottage Grove has
moved up signifi cantly from
No. 34 to No. 29, approaching
Junction City at 27.
With only four more games
of the regular season, Cottage
Grove is attempting to turn-
around its season, and after
beating the highest ranked team
in the Sky-Em League, the Li-
ons fi nd themselves gaining
traction.
“We played the best basket-
ball of the year in that third
quarter,” said Yoss. The girls
will now be hosting Sisters and
Junction City this week.
