10A COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL December 9, 2015 Jingle Bell Run features fast fi nishers Jingle Bell Run results, 2015 Run benefi ts Jogging Club, Key Club, Trees of Joy BY SAM WRIGHT The Cottage Grove Sentinel S aturday, Dec. 5 marked the annual Jin- gle Bell Run, a friendly 5k race held at Cottage Grove High School. This year, the race saw a little over 100 participants in the race/walk event that started on the track and went around the surrounding neighbor- hoods, and 16 participants in the kid’s race that consisted of running one lap around the track and earning a holiday basket at the end of the run. The proceeds of the event will benefi t the Cottage Grove Jogging Club, the Cottage Grove Key Club and the Trees of Joy pro- gram. Some chose to walk and others chose to run, and the event did not go without im- pressive times from the efforts of the stron- ger runners. Sam Settelmeyer fi nished fi rst overall with a time of 16:52, followed by Konrad Raum, a high school freshman and top runner of the CGHS Cross Country squad, with 18:58. Kyle McNary fi nished in third place with a time of 20:05. The fi rst photo by Sam Wright Runners and walkers of the Jingle Bell Run took off with good weather ahead of them on Saturday morning. female fi nisher was Lynn Swanson, who placed fi fth overall with her time of 22:35, directly behind Phillip Yoder (22:21). The second female fi nisher was Rachel Miller (23:11), who fi nished in seventh place over- all behind Mauro Jeronimo, who had a time of 22:56. Aside from Raum, the race saw another young runner who placed highly in the top 10 fastest, and was the third female fi nisher in the race. London eighth-grader Nadia Witt fi nished the race with a time of 24:34. Other honorable mentions in terms of speed are James Markus (24:35) and Bob Schneider (25:22). Sara and Jace Meyer clocked in at 26:07 and 26:08, respectively. “It’s great to see all these people out here so early in the morning to help these com- munity organizations,” said Joyce Settel- meyer, who helped organize the run with her husband, Jim. With such a great turnout, Settelmeyer believes that the event has yet again helped the aforementioned community clubs and looks forward to next year’s run.
