The varsity boys soccer team played a 20 minute scrimmage against JV Friday.
Continued from pg 1B
Boys' soccer showed com-
posed skill, even though the
scrimmage was against junior
varsity. Caden Ramsey stood
out with a couple of goals in
the 20-minute scrimmage. girls'
soccer saw great up-front con-
trol by Jasmin Lopez and Kiana
Hemenway, who Head Coach
Vern Stewart said stood out very
nicely.
Cross-country switched up its
event on Friday. Instead of host-
ing a timed run event, coaches
Jim and Joyce Settlemeyer
brought the runners out into the
woods for training on the Spirit
Trail. Jim Settlemeyer explained
that they have more new runners
this year than returning runners.
“This is defi nitely a season
where the kids can see where
they’re at and improve from
there,” Settlemeyer said. The
team will host its friendly meet,
the two-mile trial, on Thursday
at 10 am.
Football head coach Gary
Roberts was very pleased with
his team’s scrimmage. Both
quarterbacks Kory Parent and
Blake Sentman threw the ball
well with help from receiver
Brynden Howell, who stood
out in the passing game. The
ground game saw great prog-
ress with Zane Levings at run-
ning back. Roberts said that he
was very happy the team stayed
healthy during the scrimmage,
and looked much sharper than
last year.
Meet the Lions night roared
with success and gave coach-
es, players, parents, and fans a
solid preview for this year’s fall
season and key insight into the
respective teams and individual
players.
The boys' soccer’s fi rst home
game is the endowment game on
Sept. 1 against Klamath Union;
the girls' soccer is a week later
on Sept. 8 against Marshfi eld
High School. The volleyball
team’s fi rst match is on Sept. 1
against South Umpqua at home,
and the cross-country has the
aforementioned two mile trial
this Thursday Aug. 27. Football
has its fi rst jamboree against
Sutherlin High School and
Phoenix on Aug. 28.
