noon that the Chambers Mill Fire, which started
about two miles south of Lorane on Wednesday,
Aug. 12, was about 95 percent contained and is
expected to be fully extinguished by Thursday.
The fi re's fi nal size was listed at 187 acres, Mack-
ey said, adding that offi cials with ODF "strongly
believe the fi re was vehicle-related," with cir-
cumstances that mirror two other fi res that broke
out in the area at that time.
He urged the public to use caution when in

he Lane County Sheriff’s
Offi ce is seeking the pub-
lic’s help to locate two adults
and two children they say were
involved in a chase on Siuslaw
River Rd.
Police say that on Friday at
approximately 3 p.m., they re-
sponded with BLM Law En-
forcement Offi cers to the Siu-
slaw River Road and Whitaker
Creek area due to suspicious
behavior by the two listed
adults in the campground and

recreational areas. On attempt-
ing to make contact on a traffi c
stop, the listed vehicle fl ed on
three different encounters with
deputies attempting to stop the
vehicle. Inside the vehicle were
an adult male driver, adult fe-
male and two small children.
The driver was fl eeing at very
high rates of speed in the Siu-
slaw River Rd area of Walton;
deputies opted not to pursue due
to the small children in the car.
The driver was identifi ed as
Justin Mark Pederson, and the
female was his girlfriend, Koda
Marie Ellis.
An extensive canvas of the
area south to Lorane, Wolf
Creek and in the Veneta and
Noti areas was done, as well as
a check of all known sources of
friends and relatives have been
searched for the four persons.
Their whereabouts and welfare
are unknown.

whereabouts or where to locate
them can be directed to Deputy

ince last Wednesday, a lot
has happened in Lorane!
A fi re started near the edge of
the road by Mitchell’s fi eld just
north of Matchulat’s property,
now labeled the Chambers Mill
Fire, a little after 4 p.m. Wednes-
day afternoon. Firefi ghters on
the ground and in the air saved
Trish Matchulat’s house, as the
fi re rushed through the trees and
underbrush toward her home.
It came to within 75 feet of the
house and was stopped. The
fi re then went up the hill be-
hind both properties, and after
180 acres, the many agencies
of fi refi ghters stopped the fi re
by Friday. They are still being
vigilant, watching and doing
mop-up operations. There will
still be smoke in the air from
stumps and roots smoldering for
some time! Many thanks to all
fi refi ghters who worked to get it
under control! Trish thanks ev-
eryone for all their efforts that
saved her home and barn.
Another sad turn of events was
the Crow High School Booster
Barn break-in. Between $3500-
$4000 value of items were sto-
len after the break-in — not to
mention all the damage to the
inside of the building.
The Crow Booster Club rais-
es money for all needs for both
schools. School starts soon and
the Booster Club is hoping to
hold a fundraiser soon. They
would like to be up and func-
tioning for the football games.
