ROBERT LEE O’RENICK
Jan. 25, 1930 – July 29, 2015
Robert Lee O’Renick was born January 25,
1930 in North Kansas City, Missouri to Neva Hayes
and Nicolas O’Renick. He passed away of heart
complications on July 29, 2015.
In his youth Bob raised tropical fi sh to sell to
a pet store and individuals in Sugar Creek. He
worked on a farm milking cows and delivering milk
and he also worked on cars for a local mechanic.
After High School Bob joined the Coast Guard,
serving in Iwo Jima, and in Port Orford, Oregon.
Robert is survived by his brother Jack, sister-
in-law Beverly and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and other family members in Missouri. Also by his
fi rst wife, Sharon Ponting and their nine children;
four boys, John, Patrick, Daniel and Robert and fi ve
girls, Becky, Susie, Melissa, Karen and Brenda.
He is also survived by his second wife Diane,
of over forty-fi ve years and her four children, Michael, Patrick, Timothy and Kelly, as
well as forty Grandchildren, twenty-two Great Grandchildren plus one due in August, and
numerous foster Grandchildren.
Life on the farm was not only work, but a joyful experience for Bob to be able to teach
his large family about animals, farming and life itself. Bob’s favorite activities included
hunting with Diane, the Boys and Bob Smith his boss and friend. He liked fi shing and
camping, as well as riding horses with his best friend Bud Evers. He also enjoyed dancing
and traveling with friends. But most of all he loved playing all kinds of cards especially
“Garbage” taught to him by Skye, Jana & Faye, three of the foster Grandchildren. For the
past couple of years he was known for shooting an elk out the kitchen window or off the
back deck of the house. He would always comment, “Why did I ever go hunting and walk
those hills for miles?”
Bob’s love of fl ying afforded him the opportunity to get his private pilot’s license and
he enjoyed fl ying for several years. Retiring from construction at S-2 Contractors, allowed
Bob and wife Diane the opportunity to purchase and run KNND radio station in Cottage
Grove, were they loved working with the community. Bob was also fortunate enough to
help build houses for Habitat for Humanity in Cottage Grove and Drain, as well as going
to Honduras to build houses for those less fortunate. He was also the straw boss at
WOE Family Fair and built the existing barns while his kids were in 4-H. Bob’s Catholic
Faith was very important to him, and when there was a fi re in the OLPH Parish Center he
volunteered his time along with others to refurbish it
His Kids, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were the light of his life. Helping
those who needed to fi nd their way became a tradition. There was always someone at the
house because they needed a family and a home. A large heart for giving to those less
fortunate describes Robert O’Renick to a tee. He will be loved and missed by his family
and friends. May he always rest in peace.
A special thank you to all of the Hospice Nurses, the O’Renick and Ewing families and
friends for all of their help, love and support. It really meant a lot to Bob.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be Monday, August 10th at Noon at Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Church followed by a potluck in the Parish Center on Harvey Road
in Cottage Grove.
Bob’s wishes were respected by the family by donating his remains to Bio Gift for
medical research and education.
In lieu of fl owers please send a donation to: South Valley Athletics c/o Bob O’Renick
Scholarship Fund PO Box 1565 Cottage Grove, OR 97424
100% of the proceeds will go towards scholarships for under-priviledged children in
