Pickleball makes
its debut in Cot-
tage Grove
Pickleball, one of the fastest
growing sports in America, has
made its debut in Cottage Grove.
The sport is low impact and pro-
vides fun and competition for
all ages, including the senior
set. The game is played on a
court that is one-third the size of
a tennis court and includes the
skills of tennis, ping-pong and
badminton. The pickleball club
is currently painting the pickle-
ball courts on the tennis courts
by Coiner Park so that pickle-
ball or tennis can be played on
any of the courts.
The pickleball group has
scheduled play at the following
times: Monday and Friday at 9
a.m., Wednesday evening at 7
p.m. and Saturdays at noon. Or-
ganizers say they will adjust the
times as daylight changes and
will be moving into the Armory
for the “wet season”. Those in-
terested in trying out the game
can come by or just watch, and
extra paddles are always avail-
able.
Those interested in learning
more can go to www.usapa.org
and watch the “Featured Video”
near the bottom. For more infor-
mation, contact Ken Welker at

ODOT adds six
new road cameras
in southern Or-
egon
The Oregon Department of
Transportation announces that it
recently completed the installa-
tion of road cameras and weath-
er stations at six new locations,
including three along Interstate
5.
The locations are: I-5 at East
Pine in Central Point (milepost
33); I-5 at Canyon Mountain
(milepost 90); I-5 at Rice Hill
(milepost 147); U.S. 101 (Or-
egon Coast Highway) at Bul-
lards Bridge in Bandon (mile-
post 259); Oregon 38 (Umpqua
Highway) at Wells Creek (mile-
post 18) and Oregon 62 (Crater
Lake Highway) at Union Creek
(milepost 52).
The cameras are now online
and can be viewed at ODOT’s
travel website, www.TripCheck.
com.
The TripCheck system was
introduced in 2000, and ODOT
currently has cameras at about
280 locations on the state high-
way system, including 35 in
Douglas, Coos, Curry, Jose-
phine and Jackson counties.
Most locations feature two
cameras, one pointed in each
direction of traffi c, as well as
weather and pavement sensors.
The cameras and weather sta-
tions allow motorists to gather
real-time information before
traveling through areas that are
prone to poor weather or traffi c
congestion.
The system also helps ODOT
maintenance crews monitor road
conditions and quickly respond
to hazards.
