On Sunday, June 14, their dream fi nally came true. The former Cottage Twin Theater and Plaza Cleaners building now houses a large open sanctuary, a children’s wing, offi ces and a large foyer with cof- fee bar that can also be used as a meeting space – and most importantly – more bath- rooms! The old adage, “Many hands make for light work,” proved true in the remodel- ing project. Approximately 3000 volunteer hours were invested in a variety of tasks such as design, sheetrock, texture, paint- ing, stained fl oors, woodwork, murals and more. Kyle Kishen, a local building contrac- tor, said his biggest challenge was meet- ing deadlines and coordinating with all the volunteer helpers. “When working in construction you are always pushing to meet deadlines, some- times demanding that different trades on a job be fi nished at a certain time,” Kishen said. “When you are working with many volunteers you must always be kind and gracious and accept the effort that is kindly given no matter the outcome.” According to Pastor Jeff Smith, it took roughly nine months from the fi rst day of clean-up to the fi rst service and approxi- mately $180,000 in materials and some professional labor. He said there is more to be done and the other areas will be com- pleted as the Lord provides the funds. “It was a happy adventure working with Kyle, who is a faithful multi-task servant; and we are all thankful there is no debt or loans to pay off,” Smith said. He noted the signifi cance of living under limited resources for so long and how the new facility will give Calvary Chapel the capability to fulfi ll its purpose of reaching all generations. “While the practical things will be im- portant: more seating, better parking, easy accessibility from I-5, central location Please see CALVARY, Page 10A WEEKLY EVENTS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Worship service begins at 10 a.m. all are welcome.
