1969-2015
Shon L. Collins, 46, of Over-
land Park, Kansas passed away
May 11, 2015.
He was born March 5, 1969
in Kansas
City, Mo. to
Les and Sue
(Brown)
Collins.

graduated in
1988 from
Cottage
Grove High
School.
He served for 21 years in the
Marines, National Guard and
Army Reserve. In the Army,
he served a Staff Sergeant in
Afghanistan, Iraq and Desert
Storm.
He enjoyed camping, fi shing,
hiking, travel and his family.
Survivors include his parents
of Springfi eld and three siblings
and their wives, Rodney and
Karla Collins of Bend, Robert
and Sheila Collins of Bend, and
Perry and Nalainya Collins of
Veneta.
A graveside memorial will
be held Thursday, May 21 at 2
p.m. at Fir Grove Cemetery in
Cottage Grove. Arrangements
under the care of Smith-Lund-
Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage
Grove.

Guns and Hoses
The third annual Guns vs.
Hoses softball game and home-
run derby will pit members
of the Cottage Grove Police
Department and South Lane
County Fire and Rescue against
each other on Saturday, May 30
at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Middle
School. Proceeds will benefi t
Cottage Grove High School’s
senior party.
Budget committee
to meet
The fi rst meeting of the City of
Cottage Grove’s Budget Com-
mittee is scheduled for Tues-
day, May 26 at 6 p.m. at City
Hall. An additional meeting is
slated for Thursday, May 28 if
necessary.
Tree branch and
limb pickup
City crews will begin their an-
nual limb pickup on Tuesday,
May 26. The purpose of the
limb pickup is to provide a way
for residents to easily dispose
of limbs and branches from
trees and bushes that hang over
streets or sidewalks as well
as in their yards. City crews
will only come around once
to pickup limbs and branches,
so the City says to be sure the
material is out before Tuesday
morning. For more informa-

The Lynx, disc
golf tournament
Middlefi eld Golf Course will
be hosting a Professional Disc
Golf Association (PDGA)
tournament on May 23 and
24. The event will be bring-
ing about 150 professional and
amateur disc golfers to Cottage
Grove for the two-day competi-
tion. Spectators are welcome
to come and witness the skills
and abilities as they use a disc
golf course set up on Middle-
fi eld Golf Course. Organizers
of the tournament welcome
anyone interested in seeing
high level disc golf to come and
watch or to even volunteer and
help with the tournament.

This week, 41 employees from
the City’s Police, Middlefi eld
Golf Course, Utilities, Building
Maintenance, Shop, Engineer-
ing, Water and Wastewater
departments received hearing
tests. Employees in job clas-
sifi cations within these City
function areas are routinely
exposed to loud or repetitive
noise. City policy requires em-
ployees to use hearing protec-

Robert Louis Jones, Jr., 70,
of Chehalis, Wash. passed away
April 17, 2015 from Parkinson’s
Disease.
He was born June 27, 1944 in
Oklahoma

Air Force from 1962 to 1966.
He then drove a truck for over
44 years. He loved to fi sh, hunt,
build things and work in his gar-

Carolyn Marie Eichner
On May 7, 2015 at 11:00 pm, our
sweet Mother Carolyn Marie Eichner,
72 went to be with her Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. She was born on March
16, 1943 in Hope, AR to Vernon and
Margaret (Stone) Holliday. She graduated
from Fairview High School in Shreveport,
LA. She married Robin Eichner on July
25, 1972, in Los Angeles, CA. She was
a loving, caring, giving and committed
wife and mother to her husband Robin,
4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. While
she loved planting fl owers in her backyard, her family was her
real pride and joy. Carolyn extended her compassion and love
beyond even her family. If she ever met you, she never forgot
you, and would always inquire to how you were doing. Carolyn
volunteered weekly for 20 years playing the piano at local
nursing homes. Her spirit of compassion & dedication to family
blessed many people in her community. She will be missed
tremendously. She is survived by her husband, Robin Eichner
of Cottage Grove; father, Vernon Holliday of Creswell; daughter
and son-in-law, Nancy and Randy Lane of Kennewick, WA; son
and daughter –in-law, Steve and Louise Eichner of Broomfi eld,
CO; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bill Wright of Cottage
Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Christel and Matthew Brown
of Parker, CO. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on
Friday, May 29, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church in Creswell.

“Bud” Williams
Vernon LaRoy Williams passed away on April 17 th , 2015
at River Bend Hospital. He was 87 years old. Bud was born
in Eugene at the Eugene Hospital on November 3rd, 1927 to
Carl and Etta (Dial) Williams.
He attended school in Marcola, OR where he met the
love of his life, Arlene Marcum. At age 16 Bud got his social
security card and worked for Southern Pacifi c; then moved
to Portland, OR where he worked as a hod carrier.
Bud and Arlene were married July 22nd, 1944 in Van-
couver, WA and subsequently moved back to Marcola, where
they built their own home. Th eir children Patricia (Williams)
McCabe and Michael Williams were born during that time.
Bud got his fi rst mill job at Mohawk Lumber Co., pull-
ing lumber on the green chain. He then moved up to sawyer
for Preston Lumber Co. He continued his sawing career for
Consumers Co-op in Swisshome, OR until the mill shut down in 1955.
In 1956 he began his career with Bohemia Lumber Co. helping in the mill construction at
Culp Creek; before starting the sawing job. He was promoted to foreman, superintendent and
vice-president of manufacturing. During his tenure as vice-president one of his accomplish-
ments was helping design a new state of the art sawmill in Lincoln, CA. He was also overseeing
mills in Canada, and several in Oregon.
Many of the workers called him “Mr. Bohemia” because he seemed to be everywhere at
once and most of the time appeared with a big smile.
Bud and Arlene enjoyed spending the last 29 winters in Arizona. He always had a 5 lb. bag
of Costco peanuts to share with his buddies that stopped by every day.
He liked hunting, fi shing, golfi ng, playing cards, cheering for the Oregon Ducks, and visit-
ing with family and friends.
Bud is survived by his wife of 70+years Arlene, children, Pat, Mike (wife Nancy), fi ve grand
children; Kim Ficek (fi ance Jeff ), Kelly Smith, Kenneth McCabe II, Mick Williams (wife Liz),
Russ Williams (fi ance Chelsea), Nine Great-grand children and two great-great-grand daugh-
ters, two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dorothy.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30th, 1:00pm at the United Methodist
Church, 334 Washington Ave., Cottage Grove, OR.
Donations in lieu of fl owers may be made to the church or Hospice in Bud’s name.
