Ava attended Cottage Grove High
School and Meritt Davis Business
College. She works as a legal assis-
tant for bankruptcy attorneys. Kevin

William “Gerald”
Packard
1935-2015
William “Gerald” Packard,
79, of Dorena passed away Feb.
5, 2015.
He was born Dec. 20, 1935
in
Leav-
enworth,
Kansas to
William
Franklin
and Flossie
(Pantin)
Packard.
He served
in the Air
Force during the Korean War
and in the National Guard after
being discharged from the Air
Force.
On May 27, 1959 in Pueblo,
Colo., he and Donna Bunyard
were married.
Gerald worked as a farmer,
carpenter, mechanic, truck driv-
er and steel worker. He enjoyed
tinkering with machinery and
was a computer game enthu-
siast. He was a member of the
VFW, the American Legion and
the Prospectors and Golddig-
gers.
Survivors include his wife,
Donna Packard, of Dorena, two
daughters, Sandra Brown of
Dixon, Calif. and Beverly Batts
and husband William of Ari-
zona, a son, Bobby Packard and
wife Ingrid of Utah, six grand-
children and 10 great-grandchil-
dren.
A funeral will be held at Sun-
set Lawn Chapel of the Chimes
in Sacramento, Calif. Arrange-
ments under the care of Smith-

Kathryn Ella Hull
1928-2015
Kathryn “Kathy” Ella Hull,
87, of Cottage Grove passed
away Feb. 3, 2015 of natural
causes.
She was born Jan. 17, 1928 in
Zap, N.D.
to Peter Fet-
ter Sr. and
Susanna
(Kaufman)
Fetter.
Kathy
graduated
from high
school in Cottage Grove. She
owned and operated a licensed
child daycare facility. Earlier
she worked as a waitress at the
Vintage Inn in Cottage Grove.
She enjoyed woodworking,
crafts, crocheting and making
chocolate chip cookies.
Kathryn married Robert Fos-
ter; they later divorced, and she
then married Donald Hull.
She is survived by four sons,
David, Jimmy, Paul and William
Foster, two daughters, Beverly
Ediger and Roberta Simmons,
15 grandchildren, 31 great-
grandchildren and two great-
great-grandchildren.
Kathryn was preceded in
death by her husband, Donald
Hull, on May 23, 1981, and by a
daughter, Barbara Jean Foster.
A funeral service was held at
1 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2015 at Smith-
Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in
Cottage Grove. Private inter-
ment at Fir Grove Cemetery.
Charles James
Jones
Charles (aka Charlie,
Chuck, Buddy, Papa) James
Jones passed away February
1, 2015. He was born in
McMinnvile, OR to Charles
William and Emma Jean
(Ellingson) Jones and raised
in Glendale, OR. He served in
the US Navy on the USS Kitty
Hawk during the Viet Nam
war from 1961-1964.
Growing up as a child,
Buddy spent many of his
summer days venturing off with a fi shing pole and a pack of hot
dogs. He had a favorite swimming hole on Cow Creek and was
an excellent swimmer and fearless diver until the end.
Charlie married Ellen Howard on February 14, 1974.
Charlie created special bonds with his co-workers at the
plywood mills he worked in. Fishing was his absolute favorite
passion.
Aft er a mill accident, Chuck worked over 15 years at the
Eugene Employment Offi ce. He created a special bond with
many there and went on annual fi shing trips with his fi shing
buddies from the offi ce. Th ese fi shing trips were always a special
part of his life. Hanging with the boys, fi shing, camping and
telling fi sh stories were what he lived for.
As grandchildren became a part of his life, a more nurturing
side of Charlie, aka Papa, emerged. He loved playing the role
of the bellowing, comforting, and silly papa. Th ese children
brought the loving, proud, soft side of a formerly man’s man
only to a new level. Th ey always melted his heart.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen Jones of
Cottage Grove, OR; mother Emma Lippincott, Eugene, OR,
daughters Heather Jones, Cottage Grove, OR; Lisa Stegall, Walla
Walla, WA; Cathy McCullen, Sherwood, OR; and Christy Warner,
Hermiston, OR; brother Jack Jones, VA, sister Sue Lansdon,
Eugene, OR, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Arrangements
by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Rodney Llyle
Brewer
Rodney Llyle Brewer, 61, of
Cottage Grove, OR passed away
on January 16, 2015 from renal
cancer. He was born on March
30, 1953 in Centralia, WA to
Maynard and Wanda (Pierce)
Brewer. Rodney graduated from
Sheldon High School in 1971 and
served in the United States Air
Force as an airman working on the minute-man missile. He
worked in the food industry and drove truck for over 20 years
hauling hazardous materials such as petro-oil and jet fuel. Rod
enjoyed model building, hunting, fi shing, NHRA drag racing,
camping, and loved sci-fi . He also enjoyed visiting with truck
drivers and serving free coff ee at the rest area, north of Cottage
Grove. He always volunteered for everything at the Moose Post
810 and held the highest position of governor at that post. He
is survived by his son, Jody Lee Brewer, Otis, OR; sister and
brother-in-law, Sondra and Steven Benzing, Saratoga, CA;
nephew, Daren Scott Johnson, Cottage Grove, OR; niece, Stacey
McBride-Benzing, Saratoga, CA; domestic partner, Mary
Neeley and 1 grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held
from 12:00 – 3:00 PM on February 14, 2015 at the Springfi eld
Moose Lodge Post 1726, 2011 Laura St., Springfi eld, OR 97477.
