formerly of Cottage (trove, now visiting
in Baker, narrowly escaped probable
death or serious injury one day last
week while out huckleberrying with
Mrs. Joe Wood and daughters.
Aliss Kinard was busily- engaged in
transferring the delicious berries from
the bushes to the bucket when out o f
the woods walked a big black bear, and
be didn’t hesitate a moment in trying
to cultivate the acquaintance of the
fair lady. However, Aliss Kinard did
not seem favorably inclined to ac
knowledge such a tribute from a stran
ger. Fond visions of huckleberry pie
were dismissed and “ safety fir s t ’ ’ be
came the motto o f the flying figure.
The distance between them soon be
came so great that Mr. Bruin gave up
with the realization that it was indeed
