SOCIETY WOMEN OF OHIO
RECEIVE RUDE SHOCK
a
Report of Puyallup Cannery.
In
report
of
this
association
President W. H. Paulhainin remarks:
“ While it is too ea*-y to forecast
the earnings o f the cannery for the year
11*14, the footings have been made as to
the volume of business for the yenr a*
compared with 11*13, covering the high
er class o f canned goods, with the fol
lowing results: In syrup red raspberries
the increase was 1H2 per cent over the
year li*13; in syrup loganberries, 240
per cent; in syrup blackberries, 104 per
cent; in syrup strnwberries, II per cent.
These showings are made in the face of
the fact that the association did not
accept many orders for loganberries and
strawberries that were offered. During
• he year 1913 the association shipped
132 carloads of 40,000 pounds each; dur
ing the year I!*I4 this was increased to
280 carloads o f 40,000 pounds each. The
total number of can* used during the
season 11*13 wn* 1,135,072 a* against 2,
712,300 for the »en»on 1014. In con
sidering the unusual business condition*

crca»c o f bu»ine»s done by the Puyallup
k Humner Fruit Grower*’ Association
1» a marvelou» showing. In addition to
the foregoing canned goods, the associ-i
tion hu* also handled practically 5,000
50 gallon barrels of lierries. Hixty five
barrels make a minimum car. A ll of
the good* have not been shipped a* yet,
owing to the »orpin* in certain lines,
and orders in other lines are for Inter
shipment; but the transportation paid
on all lines only for the first 10 months
of the year 11*14,amounted to 411*1.52*1.
.*1. I f the business o f 11*15 multiplies
is heavily over the business season just
closed a* 11*14 did over 11*13, it is bard
to tell to wbat height it will reach,
■(even year* ago, or the season o f 11*07,
the association bandied 14,000 crates of
red raspberries that were shipped out
for consumption. During the season
just closed thy* business was increased
!o more than 174,000 crates, in addition
to practically 3,(*<*(*,000 pounds o f red
aspberries delivered to the canning
plants belonging to the association.”
