last rock barrier in the Panama Canal

Arrangements are being made to have
the news flashed instantly to every
city on the Pacific Coast when the final
blast is exploded and it is the intention
to have every wheel in each town
stopped for a few minutes while bells,
whistles and every other known noise­
making device compete in the produc­

rocks and debris can be removed from
the canal a fte r the explosion, which ia

The first Ladies’ Night of the Cot­
tage Grove Commercial Club Monday
was a decided social success, about 75
being in attendance. The first part of
the evening was given over to bowling,
pool, billiards and cards, in all of
which the ladies took part. At 9:30 a
musical program was rendered consist­
ing of a musical selection on the player
piano furnished by the Rtes-Wallace
Co , a qu a rte t composed of S. L.
Mackin, Bert Richmond, Worth H a r­
vey and C. E. Umphrey, piano selec­
tions by Clarence Moras, solo by Lloyd
Stratton accompanied by Miss Esther
Silshy. Light refreshments of punch
and wafers were served cafeteria style
ami the evening again given over to
the same amusements th a t had taken
up the earlier part of the evening.
Music on the player piano was fur­
nished throughout the evening hy Mr.
Wallace.
The executive committee of the Wo­
m an's Club held the annual Assembly
Day yesterday. The afternoon waa a
decidedly poetical one. Refreshments
of hot tamales and wafers were served.

the work for the coming year.
The Emanon Club meets tomorrow
afternoon with Mrs. ti. M. Scott.
Mrs. O. L. Nichols is entertaining
this afternoon.
The Woman’s Relief Corps meets a t
