APPEALS FOR ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL MEETINGS L. R. Alderman Saya Enough In- tereat Not Taken In School Elections. Salem, Oregon, June 7, 1912. To the Patrons o f Oregon Schools: We do not attach auffleient importance to our annual school meeting. This year our annual meeting occurs June 17. On thia day one director and the clerk are to be elected in every school district in Oregon, a matter o f much impor tance to each community. 1 should he very glad, indeed, to find that many o f tho Oregon school diatricts were milking the day o f the annual school meeting an im|>ortant occasion, nd at the same time taking advan tage o f being together to talk over the problems o f the schools. J The voting for director and clerk w ill take place at the school house. It should be remembered that women already have the privilege o f suffrage in school election*. I f all the women o f the community will pack their lunch baskets and assemble at the school house on the morning o f June 17, I arn confident that the men w ill be there also when the sun reaches -j- the meridian. O f course, the mem bers o f the fam ily under voting age w ill have dinner. So all will spread out their lunches under aome pleasant shade and enjoy dinner together. A fte r a good dinner all w ill be in the right frame o f mind for selecting the officers, and discussing school affairs. The patrons will have this opportunity to investigate the condi tions o f the school house and grounds, and see what repairs are needed; whether the school house is properly heated, lighted and ventilated and what books and pictures are most needed. Let us make June 17 a red letter day for our districts ! Yours for better schools, L. R. A L D E R M A N , Supt. Public Instruction. Get a combination drinking fountain Mr. and Mra. II. W.
