_ Semi-Weekly Herald F A IR Y L A N D . FRIDAY, DEC. 2, 1004. Wonderful Sight That Greets Visitors’ Eyes. The Kilbarn Arrives The steamer Kilburn arrived in the bay early this morning, being 16 hours from Astoria. The Kil burn carries about 500 tons of freight, mostly for San Francisco. This ia the Kilburn's lirst trip on this route and the owner, Mr. F. Russell, who is on board, reports tbo voyage a very satisfactory one aDd far beyond his expectations The Kilburn is a new boat of very neat and attractive appearance and as this trip proves, a very speedy vessel. It is the intention of Mr. Russell to make regular trips in the future between Portland and San Fran cisco, stopping here each way. The passengers for Coos Bay report a splendid trip and speak highly of the Kilburn and her officers.— Mail. ---------- >■«»»«----------- Rosebnrg'a New Hospital. In deference to the often repeated desire of many prominent citizens of Roseburg, Archbishop Alexander Christie, D. D., has purchased a site for a hospital on the Mosher prop, erty in West Roseburg. When completed, the hospital will be one of the principal ones on the western coast and will amply respond to the wants of southern Oregon. Work will commence os soon as possible. Details will be given as soon as they are made known by the Archbishop. — Roseburg Review. Surprise Party. AJpleasaut surprise donation party- gathered at the parsonage of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Tuesday evening to welcome their new pastor and wife. After pleas ant social conversation, addresses of welcome were made by Rev. Mul- key, of Coquille, and Rev. Haines, of Myrtle Point, and also Brother J. J. Lamb. In return the pastor made short reply. Thon “ Blest be the Tie that Binds” was sang, 'fo l lowed with prayer by Rev. Haines. Then the crowd dispersed, which numbered about fifty, leaving be hind them well filled baskets of groceries, provisions and money to the amount of $25, making us feel more than welcome. We cannot find words to express our gratitude to the good people of Coquille for the good way they have received us. May the Lord in return abundantly bless them all. R ev . H. M. B ranham and W ife . ■ ....... -■ » «•» a---------- To be in the metropolis, the seat of a county government, standing majestically in the rich verdure field looking over the placid waters of the Coquille, is a pleasure to the wives and children of our rural ag riculturists. But there is no time like now when every store in the city is in it gala attirement, gaily dressed and fully stocked with its holiday attractions. And, holiday shoppers should not fail while here to visit the store of J. 8 . Kanematz. Here you will see one of the most complete and magnificent stocks of holiday goods ever assembled under one roof. You seo toys of all de scriptions, from the old Noah’s ark to the most modern mechanical contrivances that human ingenuity can construct. Chinas of all makes, from the plain potteries to the most gorgeous wares—from the heavy old English and Dutch jardinieres to the thin egg-shell cups that make you wonder why they do not crumble under the touch of your finger. Some in a massive design of raised flowers and birds extrava gantly ornamented in gold and sil- ver, others in a quiet but more ar tistic design of sceneries rich in songs and poems, and still others in the most intricate design of geo metrical lines and scrolls. Talk about dreamland, of the wonderful empire told in the fairy tale. They are not in it. Visit the cozy corner occupied by dolls in this store. There are dolls and dolls and dolls! Dolls that Btand one yard high and dolls that are tiny enough that make you bunt for a pair of spectacles. Dolls that can cry—dolls that can say “ papa” and “ mamma,” and dolls that have not a word to say. Dolls of blonde type and dolls of brunette caste. Dolls that know when to shut their eyes and dolls that keep their eyes open day and night. Dolls dressed in the luxurious silks and satins, and dolls in the simple negligees waiting for the deft and skillful hand of those who select them. Dolls that------ But what’s the use? No word, no lino can fully describe the bewildering scene seen in this store. A visit to Kanematz’s store is a treat to your children. It is like a trip in the fairy land that they may long remember, of the wonderful skill of human arts, of the bewitch ing scene of beauty and grandeur, and nbove all, of the moral and olovating effect upon their mind. cine. So do not worry. Success that comes by trials and failures is sweeter than those which come with out trouble. We are making ar rangements to build a large sani tarium here this coming spring and when that is done the business will go ahead, as confidence will be re stored then. Ashburnbam, Ont., April 18, 1903.— I think it is only right that I should tell you what a wonderful effect Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy has produced. The day before Easter I was so distressed with a cold and cough that 1 did not think to be able to take any duties the next day, as my voice was almost choked by the cough. The same day I received an order from you for a bottle of your Cough Remedy. I at once procured a sample bottle, and took about three doses of the medicine. To my great relief the cough and cold had completely dis appeared and I was able to preach three times on Easter day. 1 know that this rapid and effective cure was due to your Cough Remedy. I make this testimonial without so licitation, being thaukful to have found such a God-sent remedy. Re spectfully yours, E. A. Langfeldt, M. A. Rector of St. Luke’s Church.
